If I connect an Ultrascan to the interior OBD II plug it will remain on regardless of key position. I sometimes leave the truck in the garage for 2-3 weeks between using it so I suspect that's enough time for the US to run the battery down. If I break the +12V line and reroute it to +12V when I turn the key to ON, won't the US do a cold start every time I turn the key on?

I'm not a big help - I've got a scan gauge and not an ultra scan, but is there a setting in the ultra gauge that turns it off after X minutes of no activity?

It shouldn't...I have a scan gauge and it has a couple different options to choose from that put the gauge to sleep. I have mine set to go to sleep after a bit when it detects no rpm. I'm sure the ultra gauge has similar settings.

I also have an ultragauge plugged in to OBD2 inside a 98 and it turns off automatically when key is on Off position. Infact it doesnt even turn on with accessory, only with key in ON.

Oops, sorry... I meant UltraGauge... so let's try it again: If I connect an UltraGaugeto the interior OBD II plug (below the clock) it will remain on regardless of key position. I sometimes leave the truck in the garage for 3-4 weeks between using it and I suspect that's enough time for the US to run the battery down. If I break the +12V line and reroute it to +12V IGN, then when I turn the key to ON, won't the UltraGauge do a cold start (reboot and relearn the vehicle's configuration) and do it every time I turn the key on?

I have one on my truck, and it only lights up with the ignition on. Not sure why yours is different. Look at the 'setup' menu, and see if there is an option for when it turns on.

Is it connected to the socket inside the cab or to the one in the engine compartment? I might be wrong, but I recall reading elsewhere that as long as the UG is connected, it draws power. Enough power that after 3 to 4 weeks it draws the battery down enough to prevent cranking the engine. That's why I've been hesitating to buy an UG.

Wait!? So you don't even have one??
If that's the case I'm sure if u bought one you wouldn't have a problem. If you buy a scan gauge I know for certain there is a few different shut down options to choose from. I kinda like the SG over the UG due to size! We don't have much room in our rigs to mount up another gauge and not have it in the way of something. With that said I do like the display "look" of the UG over the SG.

I see what you're trying to ask now that I know u don't have one! Your wording in your first posts make it sound like you have one and it won't shut off! As I've mentioned before I don't have a UG but I'm not aware that they draw power while shut down. I do have the SG and it does NOT continue to draw power while in "sleep" mode. I don't think you have anything to worry about no matter which one you choose. Even if it did draw power I can't imagine it would pull more than say your clock or your clock on your stereo and if for some crazy reason it did drain your battery just unplug that puppy when you know its going to set fur a while. Takes two seconds to reach under the dash and pull it out.

If I pull the plug when I leave the vehicle, then when I reconnect the plug I believe the UG will act as though it has never been attached to a vehicle before, and will go through a complete power-up cycle trying to figure out what kind of vehicle it is attached to. And I believe it will forget any customization that has been done while it was last attached to power. Sorry for making this thread so long and drawn out...

On my SG my info stays saved when I unplug the gauge...
