I'm about to order a pre-assembled strut / spring configuration and I wanted to check with folks before I hit checkout.

I've got a 2000 PreRunner with original suspension 100K miles.

I'm going to update with 5100 front and 881 OME springs.

I'm also adding 5125s in the back with a Wheeler AAL (2" lift)

If I am using the 2" AAL, should I go with the 2.5" setting on the front struts? I need to know for the assembly notes since I won't have the luxury of compressing the springs myself.

I have no additional front weight, but I carry a high top fiberglass cap on the back.

    Any wisdom is greatly appreciated.

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
OME coils already yeild your lift therefore the 5100's needs to be left at 0"/stock height.

Makes sense - so I should go with the 1.5" rear AAL? (rather than the 2.0")

Some people like the rear higher to load stuff in their bed. You can also toss on .5" top plate spacer also. Every truck is different. This is the reason why I went with adjustable coilovers. I can adjust and level my truck to the rear of my leaf pack and compensate for driverside lean. Keep in mind you are installing AAL on your stock leaf springs so it may or may not yeild 2" total depending on the condition of your stock leaf pack.

Do not preload the OME coils with the shock. They aren't designed for that. The coils will lift you somewhere around 2 inches anyway

I did bilstein 5100s all the way around with ome 881 coils and a fabtech 1.5" add a leaf. Truck looks really good, got plenty of lift, it still has a slight rake though. Easy install too

When you say rake, you mean back higher?

I've got a cap and I am trying to decide between the 1.5" and the 2.0"

ALSO - with the struts not needing preload, I guess you don't need to have the spring compressed to do the install?

    Thanks

Back is a tad higher. Might settle over time to level out but I doubt it. The ome springs are longer than stock springs so you do need a coil compressor, I rented mine at autozone for free and they installed really simple. Take tire off, brake line bracket bolt, pop upper ball joint out, then 14mm top hat nuts, then bottom shock bolt. Make sure the 5100 pre load clip is on the bottom and the cup that the spring rides on is orientated right.

I believe you still need to compress the spring to assemble the front strut. I just had a shop install mine because I didn't want to risk getting a coil to my face

I was worried before I did it, but once I realized you didn't need to compress the coil all that much to get the top hat on I was good.

Did either of you guys find extra parts you would have replaced if you had known in advance? Washers / bushings / isolator etc?

Nope, if the bolt that holds the leafs together gives you trouble, just grind it flat on top and tap it through. The add a leaf comes with a new long one.

Looking back, I probably would have replaced all the bushings. I didn't inspect them beforehand though. I'm not sure if they put in new ones with my frame or not.
