Excessive Tire Wear

I have a set of new tires on which only have a couple months of wear. my problem is, on the front tires I've noticed there is excessive wear on the outer edges. Any thoughts?

under inflation.... start with that.

 

^^^^^^yep...start with air pressure, then check your shocks/suspension.

 

to the chalk test to find the best tire pressure

 

That's what I'm thinking...The tires are inflated to 35psi...or incorrect Toe or extreme camber...I'll have to get it checked out

It's probably the alignment if you're running 35 psi. Do you have curvy roads and drive around corners fast? That will wear the outer edge a lot faster as well(personal experience ).

 

Actually, if there were too little air pressure, then the center of the tire doesn't give enough support and the majority of the weight is transferred to the edges of the tread thus leading that part to wear quicker.

 

will wear tires everytime. just get the camber close as possible to factory settings. and make sure the toe is dead on or extremely close. Toe is what wears the tires out faster. Here is a little bit of information to those who dont know, or are curious.

 

Yeah, a little. Pics would help, but it just sounds like the outward facing edge of the tread. That would attributed be alignment issues and 'spirited' driving most likely.

 

How old are the tires and what kind are they?

If they are older and getting close to the end of their life span, they could just be wearing funny because they are old.

But if they're fairly new and good - most likely an allignment issue.

How often do you rotate your tires?

 

Go with the toe doncha know. Just get an alignment. If one hasn't been done in a great while then it's always worth the damn 50-70 bucks for an alignment when getting new tires, especially when they generally cost the better part of 1000.00 bucks for a new set of anything decent. Hell, pay 100.00 for the 1 yr alignment from NTB & get free checkups every 5000k if needed.
