Performance

Looking for a little bit more performance out of my Taco. It has the 3.4 in it, 99 model. Is the deckplate mod worth doing on this engine? I planned on buying an AFE pro dry. Already have a Flowmaster dumped behind the axle. Any other little things I can do for a little bit more performance? If I get the AFE, is the deckplate mod still worth it? Plan on doing the Grey wire mod this weekend. Also, the clutch is a bit noisy, it squeks(sp?) is there anything I can do to make it stop? My friend was telling me there was a different spring setup you could do, or something like that. Anyone know anything about that? If I were to purchase headers, which would be the best brand to go with?

Any tips or suggestions are welcome.

I have a 2nd gen but i hear the deck plate mod is a great mod to do and its dyno proven and with the AFe you should get the most out of your intake

definitely do the deck plate mod.......best bang for your buck on the first gen tacomas that there is.

just did the deck plate mod and dropped in an afe pro dry s filter. definitely notice an increase. sounds pretty awesome too. cant beat it for 10 bucks

 

You got to pay to play, how much are you willing to spend for added performance? The only proven gains for more HP other than the deckplate mod is to slap a supercharger or turbo on it.

 

I just got some TRD headers! and I think that there the best header for the 1st. gens. As far as quality...
I cant wait to get them in!! There sappose to give a good noticable gain, especially when used with a good exhaust.

 

im still toying with the notion to get a set of trd headers for my 04.

yeah, i just got to save for them, but as for mods for my truck, besides small stuff......that will probably be the last for performance, and besides that.....so tc uca's are in its future also.

Yep! I cant wait to Install them. Im still waiting for my Y-Pipe bc the idiots put one of the flanges on backwards and so I had to send it back.

Im just thinking about doing the Install and then taking it down to the local muffler shop to get the welding done. Im fairly confident I can do the Install... I hope!

 

Thats the only reason why im doing it. I think this is it for performance mods... I thaught about S/Cing it, but I really dont need it, if you know what I mean.

 

i don't off road too much. what happens if i just cut a hole in the airbox and left it open all the time? installing the deckplate just gives you the option of closing the hole if necessary, ie. off-roading, dusty or wet conditions, right?

 

also, anybody know if this mod would void any warranty?

 

See, im wondering the same thing. I never go off road hardly. I meant to get the deckplate saturday, but I never got around to it. Maybe tomorrow. I got a lot of shit I plan on doing. Anyone want to trade their set of black mirrors for a set of chrome? I'm going to end up painting them if not. Smoking tail lights, deckplate, painting mirrors, and probably powder coating the stock wheels all this week hopefully.

 

yes....techincally you can just cut a hole in the box and leave it open permanently. i have the deckplate, but i never install the deckplate itself, even when offroading/mudding, cause i usually forget to put it in for the time being.........but it has never had any negative effects. only a tiny bit of mud has ever gotten into my airbox...not even on the filter.
