All of you who are like "15,000 miles and everything is fine" need to quit bragging.
![]() As far as I'm concerned, a car is "brand new" until 100k. Then its just "broken in" until 200k! I just sold my Mercedes 300TD diesel wagon the other day with 290k on it, and my Tacoma has just over 200k on it. Glad to see so many are making it well into the 200,000 mile range. Lets see a few 300k units out there! That would be 21,000 mi/yr on a 95, which I'm sure some people with long commutes could have done. -Sam |

I think..I WIN!!! (most mileage so far on a 1st Gen, that is) - 307830mi on a 1999 Auto Xtra Cab 4x4. Now the list:
Starter, front & rear shocks (at least twice), All fluids, of course tires, wipers and other normal "consumables". Wow, that's it! What a truck! It rides like crap right now due to bad alignment and need of tires and frt springs. Fixing this this month. BTW - when do folks change out the rear leaves? Can't find a mileage relation on this. |

What motor do you have, the 2.7L I4 or the 3.4L V6? I sure hope to make it that far in mine!
Leaf springs wear out when they wear out... Unloaded highway miles, and they might last 300k. Heavily loaded offroading and they might last 30k. -Sam Quote:

Also, Phidauex - It's a 3.4V6. The engine runs like a top. No real oil consumption or anything. |

203k on a 96 regular cab with a 2.7 I just bought it and have probably 1000 on it. Rear leafs were replaced with 98s I don't know what else has been done. Runs great but I got a list of stuff to do. Brakes tomorrow clutch is going as well. I think i'll easily get her to at least 300k.

Our trucks are truly amazing and or course well built! I still put heavy tool boxes in back, pack it full of wood and stuff when camping, load it up with a full bed of fertilizer bags and it doesn't really sag at all! Literally, this is the best quality vehicle I have ever owned! BTW - I do go offroad with it. But no Baja 1000 shenanigans. Just trail riding.

I bought my 04 Double Cab with 74,000 on it, right now she is sitting at 91,000. So far I have replaced the squeeking u-joint, it drove me crazy. I did the timing and drive belts, spark plugs and front brakes as far as maintenance items go. I just installed the adjustable 5100's for looks, set at 2.5" it really did change the look so much for the better.

I posted earlier on this thread, just turned 240,000 today on my 96' Taco. I think Timex could take lessons from these trucks. To date uses no oil and @ 3k oil changes, oil still looks like it came out of the bottle when drained.

I think my truck must have hit a gypsy and had a curse put on it before I got it. In 4 years and about 150,000 miles:
- replaced: egr, rad/hoses/thermostat, all 4 shocks, rear springs (the stock ones had a broken leaf on both sides), new exhaust and muffler from cat back, O2 sensor -2 accidents, neither of which were my fault: snow plow backed into me front drivers side, needed to replace whole front bumper. 2nd one: woman took a left right into me while I was traveling in a straight line, again hit the front drivers side but this time took out my radiator, left control arm, and bumper. All this on an 01! I think maybe the red attracts the morons. |

The diesel in the benz wasn't just high mileage, it was very old, and as a city car, not a long haul vehicle, they were "rough" miles. It did weigh 4000lbs, with only a 125hp motor, usually running full bore. To that end, it served very well for a motor with no electronics, no monitoring, no sensors, etc. Mercedes gassers from the era last a long time as well, but their dismal mileage has taken most of them off the road already. I'm certainly not going to start an argument about what motor is the longest lasting motor out there, since we all know there are just too many variables to make anything productive come of that. All I know is that if 30 years ago people were building all mechanical engines that easily break 300k, then I'm not satisfied with modern engines with closed loop engine control, multiport fuel injection, sensors up the wazoo, etc., that can't break 200k. I'm glad to hear that many of the Toyota motors are going for far longer than that. And I think we can all agree that some quality turbodiesel options would be very welcome in the US Toyota line. -Sam |
