OK I did it again, I added a power outlet in the cab
I was bored the other day and I decided I needed an Inverter in my truck.
Of course I couldnt just install it into the lighter socket and be happy, I had to look into the wiring diagrams and do something completely nuts, and waste a beautiful Holiday doing it. OK, I ordered a 300w inverter from amazon.com, a jenses, for short money. I had a $25 gift card and free shipping brought my total to $3.95 I liked the idea of being able to charge my computer in the truck. I looked at the wiring diagrams on here, and I noticed the 30a fuse in the cabin fusebox is wired to three separate items in the truck, I do not have power anything, so the fuse slot, which is supposed to hold a little pink box, was empty. The prongs for the fuse were there, so I was assuming that it was hot, and it was. Now I needed to find the output from that fuse. Heres what I got. There were 4, 3 through an ignition switch operated relay, which was not there, and one that is hot all the time. I didnt have an extra relay this time so I went with the hot leg. I have been chomping at the bit wanting to look under my seat to see if the truck was prewired for power seats, and then the big let down came, the wires were not there either. Here comes the tough part. I looked for ways to put a new socket into the connector at the fusebox, I came up with nothing, so I went to the junkyard again. I took a couple of connectors out of a camry, the sockets looked the same. I popped off a clip on the connector, inserted a pick and the sockets popped out. I took the largest size wire, and the smaller sized socket, popped the clip out of the connector in my truck and added the socket, then reinstalled the clip. I then put the connector back in my fusebox, butt spliced the wire to the wires going to the new outlet, added the fuse to the fusebox and checked the outlet for power. Now when the inverter shows up, I can mount it where it fits best and secure the outlet under my seat. Here are a few pics.... Fuse installed... Outlet... BTW, Pay no attention to the fuse tap in the last pictures, I already have plans to get rid of that!
