The ABS light comes on because when the locker is engaged, Toyota designed it so your ABS is turned off. (Having ABS kick in while the locker is turning the wheels can be very, very bad. It's safer to have the wheels lock up.) My locker is useable in 2-hi, 4-hi, 4-lo, 2-lo.. thanks to another mod I made (think it's called the Blue Plug Mod)... and ABS light is on, the ABS is disabled in all 4 modes.

To me, if the ABS system was enabled while the locker was engaged, it could cause very dangerous handling conditions if the ABS kicked in under hard stopping conditions. Especially on a downhill slope, where the kicking from the ABS pulsing the brakes could cause the rear to slide out, causing a roll or worse. It's much safer to have no ABS, 4-lo with the locker on and leave the transmission in 1st gear.. you rarely if ever have to touch the brakes and then they won't pulse if you are on them. Plus it'd be really bad at speed... :D

70-80mph w/ locker on, hit brakes.. pulse.. ass end kicks... roll.. roll. roll... roll... roll... ow ow ow

doesn't the 'gray wire mod' do just that? ?(allow you to use your locker in any transfer case configuration).

i don't think that the locked rear axle would cause the abs to step out the rear wheel. if anything i think it might damage the diff because it maybe sending more breaking force to one side of the vehicle.

Yes, the grey wire mod allows the locker to be used in any config. The Blue Plug mod allows you to have 2-lo (it's a single wire plug on the transmission that when unplugged, doesn't engage the front diff when the stick is pushed forward to 4-lo, unless you also depress the 4WD button on the stick as well.)

And yes, that's the other issue, ABS will grab one wheel or the other.. the locker won't like that, which makes for unsafe driving. Tell you the truth, I much prefer no ABS.. yes, you can lock the wheels and slide, but I know how to control a sliding vehicle.. ABS makes it a bitch to panic stop.

ahh i didn't see the 2lo. cool. can see it being useful on dry pavement when you have to maneuver a heavy trailer around or something. might look into doing that one.

ya i'm not a fan of abs at times. its does have its moments though.

so dude that doesn't have his abs light coming on with his diff-lock. you might want to look into that. you might damage your diff.

ABS is standard on 03s and 04s. Option for -02's.

i had 6 across like you(and like the pic). the gray one is the right one..... i had a thought though. instead of actually cutting the wire all you have to do is simply strip a short section of it then solder a jumper wire to the stripped bit. then ground the jumper wherever you wish.

it allows you to use your locking rear diff in 2wd 4hi and 4low. Stock you can only use the locker in 4low. if you noticed the diff light blinks when you try to use it in 2wd or 4hi. The light will turn solid when locked up. By doing this mod you will have a locked rear diff in any gear.
