Strange noise from engine

I have a 2004 4x4 3.4L tacoma, that has had the timing belt changed recently due to a leaky water pump at 36,000 miles. After that was done I noticed a new sound when at 2500 rpm thru 3000 rpm. The noise is a rapid ticking sound that starts quietly at 2500 rpm then gets loudest intermittently at 3,000 rpm then quiets down again after about 3200 rpm. It doesn't seem to show up until the engine is warmed up and I don't have any check engine light, power loss or hesitation when driving. In fact, it seems to run fine.

My main question is, if valves that are outta adjustment will they chatter throughout the rpm band or can they be intermittent? Also would this be a symptom of the timing belt being put on wrong?

Welcome to TW!

If the timing belt was on "wrong" it wouldnt run well, if at all. It may be the normal ticking you hear from these engines.

I've heard of the normal ticking, but isn't that supposed to happen at all rpms?

Also, I put in an mobil 1 oil filter, and mobil 1 full synth, do you think this could cause the valve tap to be more audible? Someone told me that the toyota oil filters have a drain block that keeps oil in it so it gets to the valves faster when starting the engine, could the mobil oil filter have caused oil starvation enough to cause damage?

The ticking happens at intermitent rpms, and seems to differ from truck to truck on where it is most audible.

Ok then nothing fatal? I have to drive down to So Cal in a couple of weeks and don't want my baby blowin up on me.
