Howdy guys. I have a 2003 4x4 SR5 with a 3RZ 4 cylinder. I want to eventually make it a mud/offroad truck. I like the 4 cyinder because it is light weight and i think it may give me an advantage to some of those V8 knuckle heads....If it had a little more power. I have a couple ideas i just need some direction.

-Turbo with bigger fuel pump and injectors?
    -Supercharger?
-N/A with fuel pump, injectors, headers, chip?
    -Gears

Or any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated :) thanks

i recommend getting a new exhaust as in full catback and everything with a high flow muffler, i really like my K&N CAI on my 4 cyl would recommend def, and i'm looking into a new header for some increased lower end power. Or if you have $4000 dollars on hand then go with the supercharger haha

I threw a flowmaster in her and did the deckplate mod (poor mans CAI). It makes it so i can climb most hills in 4th with 32s!

yea the deck plate really does seem to provide some good results, close to most CAI. But i love the quality of my K&N intake and it does add throttle response for sure. Did you get a better drop in filter since you put in the deckplate? Cuz that makes an even bigger difference. And i also have a flowmaster i think they really sound good on the 2.7, can't even tell it's a 4 banger haha

Actually, The deck plate mod gives more gain than any CAI I have dynoed. In fact, the K&N I dynoed LOST 5 h.p.

well chris i know you are the guru on here but i have no doubt that my K&N CAI added some power, it said more my truck it would add about 7 HP which isn't much but i noticed a def increase in throttle response and i don't have to downshift for hills that i always had to before install. Which one did you dyno? Cuz i think i have the 53 series idk but it's the FIPK kind not the air charger series

The one I dynoed was the FIPK...I cant remember the model number. I know what they "Say" you will gain, but I have never see it match, or come close to the dyno. For example. TRD claims a 20 hp increase for the 1GR-FE intake they sell. I saw a gain of 3 hp. Yes. Only 3. I got my money back. The K&N I tested, showed a loss of 5, got my money back. Airaid claimed 15 hp. I got 0 (or within the margine of error on the dyno), they actually tried to tell me I didnt dyno the truck correctly, and that I had to dyno at part throttle setting. No. Dynos are performed at WOT. They gave my money back.

Another thing to consider, is how the engine may make hp with a new mod. I have some friends that SWORE they gained power, just to find they lost, but for example, in the low range, the drop was not that bad, but it would build a little more slowly than stock, only to ramp up faster than the stock output, and meet the original hp peak of the engine....the "Gain" they felt was the hp building a little faster, even though it was down on power from stock.

ok i get where your coming from chris, but isn't that the point then, to build the HP quicker and thus create a quicker acceleration and once that HP is built up it is maintained so that's why i would be able to make it up the hill now without downshifting right?

Or am i completlely missing the point and talking out of my ass? haha

I understand what your saying, but when I tested the K&N, it never made near the stock power. Butt dyno's are always off, and there is a placebo affect in which you want to belive you have a gain, as you spent money, and have ben told you "would" get more hp. I have fallen into it as well.

very true with the placebo, and i would prob think i would have gotten ripped off if it wasn't for the hill and downshifting cuz there is no real way to tell if your acceleration or whatever has improved on a flat street especially with the sound of an intake cuz it's louder and cooler so therefore it must be faster haha or atleast that's what my teenage mind would tell me lol. But i'm still impressed with it, and i'm waiting till monday so i can call those guys at North West Off Road bout that header haha

i called them, they said they had a few left in stock, they r a bit pricy, but it would be worth the extra for the gain.

WOW!!!! They were about $350 when I got mine! I gotta say, though, it DID give the best gain out of the 2 I tested.
