Installing Billy 5100's

Hi all:

I'm new to the forum and have an 02 Taco 4x4 TRD. I just bought a set of 4 5100's and am debating whether to try to install them myself or take them to a shop. I have never installed shocks before. Can anyone provide me thier two cents? Also, can someone provide me with a link (with photos) that covers the install process from start to finish?

i would do them yourself, shocks are fairly easy to install, did you get all 4 billy's??

OP - Have you ever messed with a coil compressor before? They can be deadly. If you attempt it yourself, do plenty of reading first or find someone to help you who knows how it's done.....my 2 cents.

 

Yes I got all four. Looking for some guides (preferably with pics) online but can't find any. I know there should be something on this site.

 

x2. back in the rice burner days, we used to shoot the strut nut into cardboard.

 

I just got mine installed through a local shop. Got tired of trying to find a compressor strong enough and looking for the write up. $120 wasnt bad.

 

I did it myself and it wasn't terribly bad, but the fronts are a little scary. I used 4 spring compressors per spring, but if you've got a little extra money it might be worth it to take the fronts in to a pro and have them compress and switch out the shocks.

 

Tried it myself on the fronts, my spring compressors were too weak, and I was scaring myself. I just took the stockers and the 5100's to a shop that did struts, they swapped both sides out for $50 total. Well worth it. Took them about 15 minutes.

 

WOW! Thats a great price and time! Mine was over double that. and took 2 hours.
