Im sure its not a hard swap, same chassis. I have swapped many motors in my life and if its a motor that was in a car with the same chassis it wont be bad.

If you do the work you can get it done pretty cheap with some patience finding the parts... I've never done this swap but your probably looking at..

    -V6 Engine
    -Wiring harness
    -Tranny
    -ECU
    -Motor mounts and brackets
    -Tranny mount

if i may, IMHO.. so about 3 weeks ago i blew my 3rd cylinder and burnt valves and a bunch of other stuff on my 2.7L. ive always wanted to do a swap for a 3.4. took my truck to an engine dude. it needed a whole new head job and new pistons etc. so i decided it would be more beneficial to just get a new rebuilt engine and drop it in. i looked into a 3.4 swap but the grand scheme of things it would cost almost 2.5 times the price. to fix the thing would be 3-4k. i found a guy who with install gave me a completely new rebuilt 2.7L with new pulleys, water pump, belts, steering belt, fan. the whole kittens mittens. for about 3k. i asked him if he could do a 3.4. with install and the new ECU, airbox, brackets, and everything else it was wayy more than i wanted, it came out to 7k+ in total. its deff not worth it. just sell the truck and get a 3.4.
that is unless you have that much sitting around you could spend and not care...
    just my .02cents

how hard is it to find all the wiring harnesses and ECU. and do you know if my 2.7 engine tranny would fit on a 3.4?

you could check out your local auto junkyards and craigslist for totaled tacomas, look for people who are parting out. thats prolly your cheapest and most likely situation.
from what ive read, i don't think the engine is a direct bolt on to the tranny. you need a bracket or something. idk. anyone care to chime in?!

yea i bet some of it was labour, but then i looked at how cheap the 2.7L was with labor... kind of a big gap in price. he must really wanted extra to swap everything.
he was a nice little vietnamese guy tho.

funniest damn thing i heard in a while. he was looking at my 285s and commented "Your truck, too big tires, no go fast" i replied with, "it's not suppose to. its a pickup.."

If I remember right, all the Aisin W series transmission shared a bolt pattern. The W58, W59 trannys were for four cylinders, while the V6's got the stronger W150. I believe it's possible, but it may not last long.

The w58 tranny will have no problem holding up the power of the v6 motor as it came in N\A supras. I had an N/A MKIV supra with a 5spd w58 that i boosted and it held up just fine. Good for around 450-550 if you dont launch constantly. Now does it fit the tacoma v6 i dont know as agaim ive never done or even looked into that swap.
