which kit?

im new to tacomas and actually dont even have one yet, but whats a good kit to buy? i dont want huge just a little more. so probably 3" or less. i have seen several different kinds. coil spacers with blocks for the rear. heard you can get axle wrap with those=bad. spacers with shakles for the rear,=?? then i have also seen both of those rear options with a different spacer tophat for the front struts. whats a good way to go with minimal wear and tear that can be installed in my drive way with normal handtools? thanks for the help all!!

 

Well first we need to know what kind of truck you got. And you want to spend, and the purpose of the lift.

 

id say find a 3" spacer up front with either AAL or shackle in the back.


i got my kit for $250. its a 2.5" top plate spacer with 1.5" shackles in the back. im swapping the front for coilovers soon, but ive been running this setup and love it. im just looking for that extra .5 inch and a little better ride.

 

hey does that 2.5" and 1.5" level out the truck completly? or does the front sit higher than the rear? casue i see some kits that are 3" front and 2" in back.

 

Mine sat pretty, almost perfectly level, it was awesome. ive done alot of off road and wear and tear tho on it, so the front to me looks like its saggin just a tad, like maybe half inch at the most. but yea, it sits nice and level.
im running 285/75s with it too no problem. i just want the front to be higher, and i want the front to be higher than the rear.

looking at 2 trucks both '04s one is trd sr5 4x4 5spd and the other is sr5 4x4 auto

 

the best option if you have about 7 or 800 is the OME 3" kit. get it from toyteclifts.com. there is another option which i am looking at for my 2000. it is the fabtech 3.5" lift coil over. if you go through www.hopupracing.com it will be 799 for the coilovers, AAL and performance struts in the rear. all you need after that is a dif drop kit to help with the driveline wear.

 

dont want a coilover b/c they are going to be over 3" plus adding the diff drop= too much money spent.

 

What ever you do, dont go spacers up front. Well you can but trust me you wont like the ride. It will be stiff and harsh. If you can, go with the 3" OME lift kit from Toyteclifts.com.

 

I like my spacers, they've served their purpose and the ride wasn't half as bad as people make it out to be.

It all depends on the driver, and what they want out of it.

 

do it right and get an adjustable coil over system with aal's for the rear. do not get blocks for you will have axle wrap like no other. you can get a fabtech 3" adjustable coil over kit for 600 bucks. my two cents.

 

True! But I had 3" spacer lift and hated the rough ride on road. It was terrible. Maybe a 2.5" lift isnt that bad, I dont know. But your right, it depends on what he does with his truck, and what he wants the lift for.

IMO and xspearience Spacers are rough and terrible!

 

the truck wont be a crawler, but there will be some minor trails probably and some mudding. i just want to make her look a little bigger. this is my first 4wd so i wont need something crazy. i wont take full advantage of it. i found this lift here: http://store.fatbobsgarage.com/shar...944770455&CategoryID=7702&Target=products.asp that uses a strut extension it says. its made by rough country but would that still be strong?

is yours 4x4? you should look into a differential drp so ur CVs aren't stretched

 

it is. its an 04 x-cab 4wd. i have thought about the diff drop, but i thought that as long as you stayed under 3" it didnt really have much affect? what does droping the diff include? pretty easy task?

 

its really easy, i installed one on my friends truck. its just longer bolts and spacers.
you should be good with 2.5" lift. but when your flexed your CVs will be under pressure, but you said you wont be doing anything hardcore so i wouldnt worry about it. its like the same thing as getting new UCAs. its not mandatory but its looked good upon.

 

UCA's? sorry im from the racing side of the car/truck world so im not familiar with that yet. i have been in the honda game for a while now

 

i have a spacer lift and if your just wanting to clear larger tires and the cheap way out then spacers would work.. the ride is rough.. and its not worth it.. if you want a true 3 inches then go with a coil over lift so even if it does sag in the front a little you can always adjust it up a few more clicks to level it back out.. mine is starting to sag again and i need new leafs in the rear
