Auto Trans Issue

    I have a 98 Tacoma 4cyl, 4wd, auto with 182k miles on it. Today I pulled up to a stop sign and went to take off and the truck was still in high gear, it didnt down shift and take off untill I manually put the shifter in 1st. The fluid is good and Ive kept it changed. What could this be?

    Maybe a little more info is needed but it sounds like the modulator could be the problem I'm not sure if they are vacuum accuated(mechanical) or if its electric, but if it was all good up til now I'd start looking there. A modulator pretty much regulates the upshifting & down shifting of an automatic either by vacuum pressure thru throttle (the more accelerator, the more vacuum pressure developed) or by pulse (if electric) check any vauum hoses for cracks ,breaks or maybe just fell off, leading to the transmission.     The trans is electric controlled so no vacuum modulator. It does it some days and some days its fine.

    Ok so found out it could be a shift solenoid problem, anyone heard or messed with it?

    Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    It should throw a code for a shift solenoid malfunction. When was the last time the fluid/filter (think it is a screen) changed?
