The instrument cluster light over the tachometer/temp guage has burned out in my 1999 Tacoma TRD. I am looking for direction on how to replace the light.

I am guessing there is no way to replace the light without removing the instrument cluster. I am also thinking that the 1999 has bulbs and not leds.

Any thoughts/wisdom on this replacement would be appreciated.

    Respectfully,

Here's an online manual for a 2000 that should be the same. Maybe it will help.

You need to remove the cluster to do this.

To do that, you need to remove the radio/a/c bezel (not all the way), the ignition ring/clock panel, the lower knee panel (10mm bolts), and the cluster bezel (two top screws to dash shroud). Cluster bezel has a little hidden screw on the lower left, careful with that one. Unplug your hazard light switch, rheostat, and ECT/clutch cancel button.

Finally, steering column cover. Screw on bottom, two screws behind steering wheel. (Turn it to see them facing you from driver seat.)

After all this, there's four screws on the cluster. Pull out some, and pop off the three harness connectors. After that you're free.

That should be everything. Also there's DIY's of this with pics all over.

And no, they are not leds. You can put some in tho. Tachless gauges take only 2 #194 bulbs. Tach gauges take 4.

    Good luck!

Thanks! I think I'll wait for cooler weather to start this task.
