Got a question/idea?

Ok, so i have had more trouble keeping tailgate cables intact on my truck than a man with no legs running from a lion. So I got thinking about how the older trucks had the two peice metal hinge like deal instead of the cable. If it has already been posted I am sorry, but I think i saw the words "anti-tailgate theft" listed more times than any one phrase should be allowed to be used in a forum. It is almost up there with the GWM. I just thought it would be better than the cables to use the two peices. I just get sick of replacing them.

 

well i am on my fourth one. as far as i can tell they rust right in the center on the cable. I think its from the way they double back and fit between the tailgate and the bed. ????? I like the metal hinges better anyways, seems more secure. especially with snowmobile season coming and no trailer.

 

The next time you replace the tail gate cables, coat the exposed metal that goes into the ringlets with silicone. This will aid in rust proofing the cables.

 

the cables on my truck are insulated, idk why yours arnt?

 

Mine are too, but they keep snapping right in the middle. I stepped on the tail gate to grab a 50 lb bag of corn from my uncle's feed store and I had one snap. I ain't a big guy either. only bout 150. so 200 lbs should not break a cable. I like the idea of having the two piece folding type supports tho. I am going to pick up some and see if I can get them to work. I dunno.

 

Try a thicker cable?

 

sounds like you are somehow getting come bad cables. to my knowlege mine are original to the truck and ive tossed 80lb bags of concrete on them and my 280lb friend decided it would be funny to flop down onto it onto his ass and make the back of the truck bounce. neither of which broke a cable. try getting some from toyota. maybe aftermarket are different

 

that could be, as far as i knew the ones on it when i bought it were oem. then i ordered some "oem" from online. So they probably were crappy cables. I want something like these. I think they would be stronger and more durable. http://www.crosscanadaparts.com/new-products.html
