Chris, But my truck didn't come with a remote. Never had one. So my question is, does my truck have (whatever it is) to program for a remote to work? What do I look for?

Just power locks, no security. I'll call this place on Monday since they are close to me here in NJ. Man, I hope they will work. This is one main thing I didn't like about my truck. Not having keyless entry...:(

Since you did have keyless enty, and just missing the remote, these will work for you. Mine didn't, so that's why I'm asking.

Hey Bob. Mine has the factory security system with aftermarket power lock set. I am thinking if you have the power locks and they are factory you can use the remote. BUT, you are doing the right thing by calling first. There will be a central power lock unit under the dash, I will look it up on my alldata website to see where it is, then you can look to see.

OK, it will have the RS3000 lock system. Look under the drivers side for a black box with the RS3000 label. If it is there, you can use that transmitter without any doubt.

Cool, Thanks Chris. It's dark out now, but I'll look tomorrow for sure. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I hope that unit is there. I really want the remote keyless entry.

Toyota likes to put them in different places in different models. Look under the drivers seat, or it will be located in the drivers side kick panel, or under the steering column cover. It's about the size of a cigarette pack.

If your truck didn't come with a Keyless entry system or factory alarm you will need a keyless entry set up.

I bought my replacement off ebay from the handle remotewholesale. It came with programing instructions. I would buy from that guy again. Great service! And the remote matched the exact same one I had.

Don't know about working with your truck, but I bought from them (Midewest Keyless last week). I bought the exact fob you linked to (the FCC ID matched mine exactly). They shipped fast and it worked.

Did you find "the box"? It would be awesome to go from keyed to keyless entry.

Here is the complete owners manual to our alarms. It is in there somewhere. Mine has no switch, it is built into the systems computer, so it switches using the remote.

This thread got me hoping I had the black box in my truck to convert to keyless entry, but after further investigation, I do not have it. Is it possible to get a RS3000 box out of a wrecked tacoma and install it to be able to get a keyless entry? If so would it be a plug n' play setup?
