bumper compatibility

some of you may have seen the bumper i was selling and i have a question about it.

it was built for my 02 tacoma and someone with an 00 tacoma wants to buy it.

the way it was supposed to mount to my truck was via a new cross member that was to be welded between the ends of the frame in the front. and then the bumper would bolt to that.

my question is... is the frame of an 02 tacoma the same as an 00 tacoma? at least the distance between the ends of the frame?


anyone have any reason to believe this wouldn't work on an 00 taco?

If I recall correctly the lateral distance between the frame rail ends is the same for both 1998 - 2000 and 2001 - 2004 generations. However, the length of the rail ends (longitudinally; relative to the front) are not the same. As a result, bumper fitment is not the same between these two generations.

 

right... the way i was told to mount the bumper was to align it on the truck the way i wanted with the cross member bolted on. once it was where i wanted mark where the cross member was, detatch it from the bumper, weld it on, then mount the bumper back on.

so as long as the frame rails are long enough to allow some wiggle room to line up the bumper i think it should be fine.
