Lightbulb Replacing a 3.4L v6 with a V8

Hi everyone,
I new to the site and have been playing with a few ideas that I don’t know if they can be done or if one should even try to do them…. So, before I share some of them let me tell you a little about my taco…. I have an 02 Tacoma Prerunner TRD 3.4L V6 with off-road package and rear lock. Now for the add-ons which I did myself with a little help here and there.. First I put in a K&N ram intake, then a Doug exhaust, and a 2.5 Bilstein lift. I plan to get some headers at some point but it looks like the good ones will run me somewhere between $400-$800….
Now for the first two ideas, I've been tossing around in my head one being how hard would it be turn make my 2wdr into a 4wdr and how much would it cost....????
As for the second one, which is just as big if not bigger "can” a V6 be made into a V8 and if so as what cost????
Now I don't have the knowhow to do this myself; but I'm a quick learner and would not mind taking it on. However, since I've found this site and I have see & read a lot of posted message and discover that there a lot of people on here who seem to know a thing or two. I thought I can't possibly be the only nut with ideas like these and what better way to get to know everyone than by throwing a few crazy ideas out there.....

with the right tools, any motor swap is possible... but with such a light truck, a V8 would send you flying or rolling over pretty bad on streets... tooo much power for that thing...

as for 4wd, you can get a used stock transfer case for about $300, front diff for about $400...

Both of your ideas are not impossible. As Mike stated, with enough time and money anything is possible.

Neither one is "plug and play". You can't really associated a cost with either of them. No one, to my knowledge, has done the 2wd->4wd conversion. There are a few, and I mean few, V8 first gens out there. The cost will all depend on the donor motor and tranny.

Keep in mind, and engine swap isnt gonna be cheap. Its helpfull if you have a doner vehicle, so you can swap wiring, ECU, etc. as needed.

Send a message via AIM to huyissuperman
First idea - costs ~$2k give or take for all the parts.

Second idea - making a 6 into an 8? lol, cheaper to buy a rustang.

If one could stuff a 289 v8 into a Sunbeam (tiger) then most certainly a small block v8 could go into a taco. Would not make it handle, but it sure would make some surprises in a straight line!

there have been a handful of folks whove done the 2wd -> 4wd conversion

heres some links
http://ttora.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44823
http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum...ad.php?t=27216
http://www.ttora.com/wiki/index.php/...ive_conversion

the second one has some sort of cost list with it

you'll need a bunch of parts which can sometimes be tough to find...but they are out there

Here is a list of parts that you will need:
4x4 tranny w/t-case and shifter
front diff w/ front mount & mounting brackets
spindles/hubs
cv axles
front d-shaft
4X4 Rear D-shaft (it's about 11 inches shorter than the 2WD)
Transmission Mount on crossmember (2WD is different)
Floor shifter plate (you can try to cut yours but I found it easier to just get a 4WD one)
4WD shifter boots (one is rubber that goes under the truck and the other is fabric for the interior)
Interior plastics
Speed sensor (some 4WD trannys dont come with one)
You DO NOT need a 4wd ECU
