Just got the call from Toyota. According to the dealer, (second one in 18 months), my VIN is NOT listed as being authorized for even a free inspection BUT they did it anyway. Toyota HQ told me my VIN number WAS authorized for a free frame inspection in June of 2008. Now they say different. Everything is fine with my frame according to dealer, no problems (see photos above).

2001's are NOT entitled to the EXTENDED FRAME WARRANTY or UNDERCOATING/FRAME REPLCAEMENT! This is the second dealer who told me this plus the Toyota rep on the phone at Toyota HQ! Whoever is telling you that the 01-04 Tacomas are covered under a 15 year warranty is WRONG. Toyota will do NOTHING for me and told me so. I asked what if the frame rots out??? they said it is not covered and there is NOTHING they will do for me.

This company seems incapable of making vehicles with basic corrosion protection. If you live where the snow falls, buy something else.

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.

If that's the case then why have so many people gotten their frames replaced on 01-04's? They are covered. You sure you didn't call Ford by mistake?

did YOU find any documentation saying that it would be inspected?

I had toyota telling me that my suspension wouldn't be covered. I had to go to a different dealer and provide paperwork from toyota TSB with my VIN in the range of trucks affected.

Is this stuff all WORD OF MOUTH? Where is the LINK or PRESS RELEASE on the Toyota web site that says '01-'04 frames are covered under an extended warranty for frame rust? The dealer told me THERE IS NO SUCH WARRANTY! Post all the hearsay stories of satisfied 01-04 customers you want. The fact is that THERE IS NO OFFICIAL TOYOTA WARRANTY FOR FRAME UNDERCOATING OR REPLACEMENT for the 01-04 Tacoma! My dealer says NO SUCH WARRANTY EXISTS. I called Toyota HQ, NO SUCH WARRANTY EXISTS.

I have personally seen several frame replacements on 2001-04 tacomas at my local toyota dealer here in Vermont (a salty snow belt for sure) while having my truck serviced. They have dedicated two bays in the service dept for the campaign & were going on all summer long. I even took a pic for TW Live thread. It doesn't seem to be a problem here. :notsure:

It doesn't sell me off Toyota at all, but am sorry to hear what your region dealership is doing to you. Where are you at?
    oh yeah Western NY.

Page ONE on the Warranty Enhancement Notification link posted above:

Toyota has recieved reports that a small number of 2001 through 2004 model year Tacomas operating in severe cold climate areas with high road salt use exhibited excessive rusting to the frame , causing perforation of the metal.

If your VIN isn't listed in the "small number" of Tacomas' you are NOT covered. This is NOT a blanket warranty for ALL '01-04 Tacoma owners!!!!!

We know that. Just like not all 95.5-00's were covered under the buyback. You claimed there was NO warranty.

    Ok now,

we are all liars and he says so.....;)

My '02 Tacoma WAS re-framed and delivered back to my person on 6/12/09 at which time I handed the dealer back the keys to the TOYOTA PRIUS I had been driving for the 11 days my TACOMA was in their possesion....

I now have a 15 YEAR EXTENDED FRAME WARRANTY on said vehicle..IT IS WRITTEN PLUS IN THE DEALERS COMPUTER:cool:....

I will repeat AGAIN,I know of 4 '01s that have had treatment or FRAMES..just in my area of NH...plus 3 '02s:)

You should trade that truck right now,PLEASE....then find another venue to "wawawa" on....

The "idea" behind joining a Forum is to ask or offer help and then take or use such advice to the positive not berate those trying to help you...WE GAVE YOU THE RECALL INFO,PHONE #'s and our history with this problem..you basically have trounced on or cried about any and all given to you.....PLEASE sell that Toyota..WE WILL ALL BE HAPPIER;)

Come on........who doesn't want a 2001 First Gen that looks as good as mine! Not a speck of rust on it (well not on the paint anyway) ! Kelly Blue Book value sale! Letter from Toyota that says the frame has NO DAMAGE! KBB Value:

    1) Private Party Sale in GOOD condition is $6665.00 !
    2) Trade in Value (LAUGH!) in GOOD condition is $4825.00 (subtract $2500 if trading in at a Toyota Dealership).
    3) RETAIL VALUE in GOOD Condition is $8665.00 !!!!!!!!!

This truck is perfect except for a little surface rust on the frame that Toyota says is nothing. Who wants it for $6500 cash??

How about a photo? I'd love to see the Before/After and the paperwork from the dealer. I posted MINE for all to see. How about posting yours? Any chance we can see what a new replacement frame on a 2002 Tacoma looks like? I'm sure there are many here who would love to see it. Has anyone seen a before/after photo of an 01-04 Tacoma with a new frame? Anyone have a link to a photo of one? Many thanks.

I'd much rather deal with the bed rusting like in the older years(79-83) than the damn frame rusting out like these. Sucks, but pretty much everything nowadays is this way, curb appeal & nothing to back it up FTL! Just enough to snare your cash & getcha far enough down the road to have no recourse. Fucked up concept fo sho.
