Spare Tire Mount???

When you crank the spare tire back up under the truck does it just tighten up against the frame cross member? Or is there something mounted to the frame crossmember that the tire tightens against???

 

There is a sort of bent peice of sheet metal that fits the contour of the inside of the rim if i remember right. I havnt had my spare out since July so dont quote me on that

 

Yep, that little mis-configured piece of sheet metal just kinda keeps the spare from moving side to side once you crank that cable pulley up tight..

 

OK, So I guess I don't really need it... Right?

 

I guess if its not flopping around while your driving and the tire itself isnt rubbing on the cross member you should be all good. if you wanted to get fancy you could cut a couple of wood 4x4s (or bigger) into little blocks and drop them in the rim before you crank it up to make a spacer, maybe even notch them to fit the cross member this may not work but who knows
