4x4 question

Is ok to leave your tacoma in 4x4 mode while driving normally?

 

well, it's been snowing here in MN and I put my truck in 4x4 to avoid slipping, and I left it in 4x4, while driving to work... he roads aren'tthat bad anymore, Ijust wanted to know if its ok to leave it in 4x4?

 

I would leave it in if you are having issues getting around but as soon as you can get comfortable traction on your drive i would go back to 2wd.

 

The 4wd system will bind up and be ruined if your use it on dry pavement...especially when making turns. You need to be on a surface that has some give to it like snow, dirt, loose gravel. I've read where some use 4wd when it's raining on paved roads, but I personally wouldn't recommend doing it. In 4hi you can drive close to normal, but if you need to be in 4hi chances are due to the conditions you are going to be going slower than normal (snow, dirt road, etc.) Even while turning on a dirt road you'll experiance some binding while making a turn, so you'll want to make wide turns to help alleviate it.

 

If you've got snow on the roads....put it in 4wd and leave it there.

When the snow is gone, put it back into 2WD.

 

i have seen people literally snap axles doing this, so i would say no.
