I'll guess that this problem is far less common in your area, so the dealers may not have experienced it yet........?......just a guess

Well it is official they are mailing my buyback offer letter today, only 1 week. Too bad it is going to my old house instead of where I am now.

Hi I'm new to the forum but i got a letter friday about the frame rust on my truck. It came at kind of a good time because i just had it serviced monday and me and the mechanic were talking about how the frame was starting to rust pretty bad. I dont have any holes that i know of but the rust is bad enough that it is in the metal. Its not just surface rust. I have an appointment this week at toyota to have it checked out but are they just buying these back or will they fix the problem and undercoat the truck if its not to badly rusted already. Thanks for taking the time to read this and respond to me.

Ya, I'm pretty sure they either buy it back (if they deem it unsafe or whatever) or they extend the frame rust warranty to 15 years from original purchase.

Frame rot on '01

My 2001 has major frame rot while everything around it looks ok. All the undercoating is flaking off. 44,000 miles or around 5500 a year and garage kept. I'm the only owner. Very depressed as this year is not included in the recall. Planned on keeping this truck forever. Suggestions?

I have a 2000 model (ex-cab, v6, trd, 4x4, 5-speed) and had it checked out a few days ago and everything was lookin alright until the guy hit the frame with a hammer and knocked a small hole in the frame near the rear. They told me sorry and took my registration info and told me in about 10 days toyota would buy my truck from me. Im sad because i had modded my truck just the way i wanted it. The only good thing is that I will be getting a check around $17000

For my 2000, reg cab 4 cyl, no TRD, I got 16.7 K, you should get well over 17 without any of the other incentives.

Regarding Des Kaiser's post,
What is the range of years this applies to? I know mine is in there but people always ask me. I always thought it was 95-04.

probably the only way to get rid of it all is to do a complete frame swap since they arent covering ur year on the buy back

...will probably be difficult to hold out but Toyota may discover the problem occurs in later years as well as start buying back newer trucks.
...might be too much to wish for though.

Toyota just offered a guy at work $12,600 for his 99 Tacoma due to the frame rust. He bought the truck used five years ago for 13,600... He has 157,000 miles on it. He said this is one and a half times the Blue book value. Needless to say, He is happier then a pig in shit.

Hi all. I have a '98 reg. cab 4x4 Taco and have been thinking about taking my truck in to get it looked at. The frame appears to just have surface rust with no holes that i can see. But before i start modding it i would rather get it looked at. I bought the truck back in Feb. of this year, and i obviously havnt recieved any letter from Toyota regarding the frame warranty due to me not being the original owner i assume. Do i need this letter to get it looked at? Also, where is a dealer in central Ohio that some of you may have taken your truck to that knows about this issue and will give my truck a professional check and know what im talking about? Thank you!

You don't need a letter.

Every Toyota dealer should know about this issue, if not they suck.

My truck looked ok too but the main problem is where you can't see it unless you do some banging with a special Toyota hammer.
