I bought a 02 tacoma from cleveland, and contacted the dealer and went back to the body shop, they said that they will not do a reframe, but will do the undercoating or a buy back, my frame is rusty, but it does not have holes. If they give me the option buy back or undercoat, how do i push for the reframe?

Try calling Toyota customer service, be polite but persistent.

PhilC,

oldtacomaguy "nailed" it......
I would have your VIN with you and unless they changed something,'02's are supposed to be re-framed OR treated...either will get you an extended frame warranty of 15 years......One half of us in NH are getting Re-Framed and the other 1/2 prepped, treated and resealed...

Good luck and Patience will work....

Snoope back quiet

I NOW HAVE PICTURES IN my profile.once I figure out how to put them in threads .....they may go up..

OK got some good info from customer service and had the dealer do the frame inspection, they found some weak spots and the manager said they may be doing the reframe. The reframe is great news! does anyone know what extra parts are replaced when the service is done?

Rusted Frame

Well, I thought I had a good frame on my Tacoma, but when I picked up my truck from the mechanic, he found a rust hole forward of the rear passengers wheel.

I called the local dealer, they didn't seem to interested in it or know anything about it until I said it was a 2000 Tacoma.

Dropped it off at noon today for the inspection. They can't get to it until tomorrow.

If it fails is there any other option other than buy back?

Can I insist they fix it?

What if I say no to the offer, it can't be as much as I have into it and they are impossible to find?

CRAP!!!

I have a 2000 Taco. That is my Baby.

I have the same problem. My truck did pass another year even though there is a soft spot. They said it is still solid but keep checking the frame from time to time and I have to keep going to the inspection every year....which has to be a year to the date....we tried to take it 2 days earlier and Toyota corporation sent my Taco home and said no come back in 2 days...has to be the exact date.

Anyway, it did pass but I keep going every year till it fails. We tried and tried. We called all kinds of Toyota dealerships in the area ( with different answers ) and we called toyota corp on many occasions and talked to many people....some nice and some not so nice.

What Toyota corp told us is they will not fix any 2000's. They fail, they take them, you buy a new one. The dealership that is handling the inspection explained that the company that made the frames for the few 2000's they did fix, went out of business so they are no longer making frames for the 2000's. They can't get them anymore. I want mine fixed, I don't want mine to be taken... Very sad really. I love my Taco.

Well it failed big time......

They called me and said they sent the info to Toyota and to come get a rental. When I got there I decieded to just drive my truck since I had some stuff to do over the weekend and told them I didn't want the rental. They got the service manager and he told me the truck was condemned.

He wouldn't let me drive it. I had to see for myself so they put it on the rack and................ IT BE BROKE!!!

There is about a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch of metal holding the front of the shakle on the frame.

They gave me a Prius to drive while they do their legal stuff. The dealer did say he would allow me to take off the new tires and rims and anything else I wanted before they actuall took over the vehicle. CRAP!!

Anyone know of a good Taco for sale in Florida?

I wonder if the condition of the frame warrants taking it home or if it is a dealership thing. They let me take mine home. They said to bring it back when you get the letter stating how much they would give me. So, I went home with her and had my last mountain ride. I took my brother-in-law with my. I think he had as much fun as I did. I looked at him and said "Now you see why I don't want to get rid of it?" He just shook his head.

I almost think it is a dealership thing. I have heard six months to (as DadsToy stated) they just bought it.

I've owned my '01 for about 3 months now and I just got the letter yesterday, it very clearly says buy-back in some cases. Does anyone know how they review the frame, is it simply a visual inspection or is it something more scrutinous? I bought mine from a Toyota dealership and the undersprayed it as part of the deal, but that stuff is on so thick, there's no way you could inspect the frame without removing it, I'm wondering whether they did this in anticipation of the recall and the inspection of my frame was positive? The truck has spent it's whole life in salty Ontario but is completely rust free so here's to hoping she's all good when it goes in next week...

They literally hit it with a hammer and visually inspect it. They wouldn't have done it in anticipation of a recall. If it was undersprayed, it may have already been tested. If it was positive it would have recieved a new frame.

We don't mind. I am not sure how many on this board have had their's bought back. I can only think of two, me being one of them.

That's how I felt. If they would have had a 1st gen on the lot that fit my specs, I would have bought it.
