Toyota is extending the warranty on frame for 15years if it "passes" the test.
So no worry, they'll buy it in time, in the mean time, have fun beating the crap out of it... lol

I don't think that you can blame Toyota or any other car company as Mass Highway and your town likes to just dump salt 6 months a year.

Sounds like sour grapes to me and your truck is actually in better shape than mine was, as your's passed and mine did not.
Dave, with respect, this does not appear to be a salt problem. This is a poorly manufactured steel problem. The frames are failing because the steel manufacturer cooked, mixed, heated, cooled or some how failed to provide a correct batch of steel over a long period. These frames rails destroy themselves from the inside out. The steel flakes, the corrosion is through and through not on the surface. The surface rust is expected and coincidental. I just had new frame rails welded in place in December. Saved the 5' sections and they spent sometime in a testing lab. A client operates a corrosion lab and confirmed this. I LOVED mine too. Ohio, 99' 4cyl, 5spd, 4wd, extracab, 180k, regular problems like heater cable. Toyota has stepped up to the plate like a man with integrity. A guy from the NHTSB told me that the US domestic truck makers would have denied this safety problem for years. Toyota recognized the issue quickly (after a few of us complained about the safety aspect) and took it on the chin. I will be a happy Toyota flag waver. Too bad it did not happen to my 00' Tundra that has $600 worth of electrical problems. I was really upset in December.... I have cooled down now. The welding job cost me $2500. I will not break even because of the repairs. Too bad they did not catch on sooner I have put $3500 in it to keep it on the road since December. Good luck all.

I was at my MrT today, and watched them punch a hole in one on the rack. Just about an everyday occurrence. This is a small dealer, and in less than 4 weeks, they have accumulated 33 in the bone yard. Probably as many was driven off the lot by the owner, to make a decision later.

I bought a 99 tacoma limited trd for $7K 3 months ago and just sold it back to toyota for $15k which is 1.5 times KBB excellent retail value. plus 1k towards the purchase of a new toyota. I personally think they are doing the right thing and will happily except a $16k down payment on my new tundra. Plus toyota paid for a 30 day rental for me while the paperwork goes through. too bad since there are so many of us in ct turning in these trucks there was only one rental car left which was a 08 chevy malibu which is infact not that nice. But free is free so you take what you can get. Thank you

While I do agree that it was bad steel from the start it was moved along by salt that is used on the road.

But whatever the cause/reason, Toyota has done the right thing.

I can't believe that dealers let people drive them away to "decide Later". My dealer showed me a letter from Toyota that told then under no circumstances should the people be allowed to drive away due to massive liability issues.

I was lucky and got into the program fairly early and have a 08 Camry to use.

I also got a call from the person handling the claims and they hope to have check for me in a few days.

Well they did entend the warranty from 3 years to 15 years on the frame rust.

Good question to ask Toyota.

Toyota rep said they will honor 150% for 15 year warranty extension. Blue book will obviously decline. Hope you make it. Pour the salt on!

Well I said good bye to my truck today and left it with the dealer. I just hope they come back with more than I paid for it and everything will be golden...

Have it checked. Can't hurt.

Just picked up my 08 Taco XTra Cab 4x4. Cost was my old truck, 00 reg cab 4x4 and $3500.

Can't bitch about that at all.

Can anyone tell me if 31x10.5x15 tires will fit a 08 2.7 auto tacoma and have clearance. Have the tires on a 99 v6 trd don't want to let go of them. I know, get another trd. GAS MILEAGE! SORRY! Would get a 2.7 auto 4x4 but I guess they don't make them. THanks

4.

It appears that the only v6 you can get comes with a zillion extras that I didn't need or want. Never saw the need for the TRD package.

Good luck, not that you will need it.

Toyota did very well by me, couldn't be happier.

"Its an unfortunate Catch-22, really."
That's what the guy at the Toyota dealership said last week when I brought my 95 in to see if it met the criteria for repurchase. I knew it was clean cuz I wash it like a freak in the winter but I also knew they were rotting from the inside out...
Anyway, the tech comes out shaking his head, hands me the "pass" paperwork and says that I drive one of the two or three "cleanest" 95s he's seen since the start of the repurchase program.
So...not that I want to lose my truck...I don't...but I kinda wanted a sweet down-payment so I asked them to run the numbers and see what I would have gotten had they taken it back....$8800 if I put $1000 immediately on a new Toyota (any model)...$7800 otherwise. insert curse words here
