That's what the guy at the Toyota dealership said last week when I brought my 95 in to see if it met the criteria for repurchase. I knew it was clean cuz I wash it like a freak in the winter but I also knew they were rotting from the inside out...
Anyway, the tech comes out shaking his head, hands me the "pass" paperwork and says that I drive one of the two or three "cleanest" 95s he's seen since the start of the repurchase program.
So...not that I want to lose my truck...I don't...but I kinda wanted a sweet down-payment so I asked them to run the numbers and see what I would have gotten had they taken it back....$8800 if I put $1000 immediately on a new Toyota (any model)...$7800 otherwise. insert curse words here
Ya my 2000 and $3500 got me a brandy new 4x4 Xtra cab SR5

Hi folks, newbie here. I just got back from our local dealer, and it was in and out in less than 5 minutes. Somebody just glance under the truck (didn't even put it up on a lift or anything) and said it "looked clean". Does this sound right? I live in Virginia, and we don't get near the amount of snow the northern states do, so the salt exposure isn't as much, but it we do get a lot of rain, etc. It looks relatively clean just peering under it, but I thought they'd do a more thorough inspection than that. Should I take it to another dealer? Thanks.

I have seen this done a few times, and on each occassion the dealer puts in on a rack and uses a ball pein hammer to look for weak spots. I have been told the weakest spots are on the inside of the frame and also on the outside area were the spring shackles attach to the frame.

I do not believe that peeking under the truck qualifies for an official inspection. Toyota pays the dealer 1/2 hour shop time for each inspection.

Does this include the 2 wheel drive tacomas? Not the pre-runners but the regular low to the ground 2 wheel drive trucks?

inspection pdf

Does anyone have the official inspection instructions for the dealers. I found it on the another site, but the page wouldn't load properly. If anyone has it out there, I would love to see it to see exactly what their procedure is suppsoed to be. I was at the dealer the other day and I was in and out in five minutes...doesn't seem legit. I passed the test. I scheduled another appt at another dealer next week, but I want to know exactly what the procedure they are supposed to be following is.

Thanks.

Just passed inspection on the 99 tacoma this morning. I bought it in thinking it would fail because I put a hole in it with the claw end of a hammer a few inches before the shackle. I hit it good and I don't think it should go through. The rest of the frame was solid as far as I could tell. Any suggestions as to what I should do? Forget it or try calling toyota and blah blah blah?.

Taking my 99 Tacoma in Tuesday to have the frame inspected. I know its gonna fail I poked a hole in it with my finger. Not to mention the baseball size hole in it .

There NO incentive for the dealer to pass the truck if it's bad.

The more they fail, the more new trucks they sell.

Bring it to another dealer and have it inspected properly.

Since when are the 2001 included? Last I knew it was 95-2000 models only,

But anyways, for my 2000, 4x4 extra cab they gave me almost 18.5K total. This was for the buyback and incentives.

as far i was told by the toyota rep. it was 95-00's in areas where salt is used on the road. also i was told it was the same deal for every tacoma in these areas of these years which is 1.5 times the KBB retail value so you can easily figure out what they are going to give you i bought my truck for 7k in feb. and they took it back for 15k plus you get a coupon for $500 any certified used toyota or $1000 off any new.
They have been jerking me around alot and making the whole thing a huge hassle and have "misplaced" my truck with the plates still on it and i have yet to recieve the check they promised within 30 days and it is now day 33
They did give me a free 30 day rental (which i was told would be a truck but i got a POS 08 impala) which i just took hostage and have been driving my own car. All in all im excited to get a newer low miles tacoma without paying out any money but im pretty disappointed with the customer service and the fact that they took my truck and lost it before i got my check.

Anyone???

I'm dying here...I was just under my truck today and it has visible wholes on the inside...forget the hammer, I can stick my finger through and a bunch of other places flex when I push on them.

I would love to upgrade to a new Taco. I'm going to contact my local dealers and if I get no where with that, I'm going to contact Toyota.

EDIT - a bunch of 2001 owners have posted on the Toyota blog and I did the same. I'm going to contact some local dealers next.

I just talked with one of my neighbors yesterday that has a 2000 ext cab 4X4. He took it to his dealer basically the day that he got the stuff in the mail and it passed...looks like my 95 underneath, clean...but has a lot of body rot which doesn't count. So last week he took it to another dealer and it failed. He paid about 8K for it used a year ago-ish. I hear they're giving him over nine for it...2.7L also.
...but I'm finding it pays to get a second opinion. I'm gonna wait til November/December and try it again. ...and then in the spring after a nice long New Hampshire winter.

Hey everyone, I'm new here...
I live in ohio.....

I have a 1999 Tacoma V6 SR5 TRD Package.
127K miles, dents and scratches all over it... runs great... clutch is slipping and needs new tires...
But no need to fix any of that crap now!

I took my yota to the dealership on thursday May 22nd and they put it on the lift and banged it with hammers.... I heard a few crunches and they said it failed in 3 spots..... I can only see 1 of the spots cuz its on the outside right in front of those leaf spring mounts.. there is now a hole in it.

They said toyota will be calling me in a week or so.
They let me drive away.. is my truck safe to drive?

Also how long has it taken for toyota to contact you guys after your dealer inspection?

Panaman

Look back a few pages for the 1-800 number for Toyota customer service. I have been through the buyback process, and I had to make a lot of calls to keep things moving. It took me about 45 days start to finish to get my check. I had a 97 ex. cab 4X4 with 176000 miles, got over $11,000 for it. The process can be frustrating, but worth it in the end
Good Luck

PS- number is 1-800-331-4331, I went back and got it.

Over 9k for a 2000 ext cab 4z4? Something seems fishy.

I had a 200 4x4 REG cab and got over 18.5K after adding in the extra 1000 for buying a Toyota and 750 for buying a Tacoma.
