We checked out a 2005, wow - we love that truck! We thought about going for a better mileage vehicle but can't do it - we have to have a Tacoma!!

I'm a little concerned by the fact that this dealership is not taking trucks as soon as they are found to have this problem. They are not giving rentals either. They already told us that we would be leaving with our truck regardless of having holes in the frame. Seems odd since everyone else on here is saying they have a rental. Any thoughts?
Don't know why they are doing this.

There is a serious liability issue by letting you drive off in a truck that has been deemed unsafe.

They are getting totally remenbursed by Toyota for all rentals/

Don't know your financial situation but don't know why you would get a used truck. My dealer didn't have what I wanted in stock but quickly found it. There are so few used Tacomas out there that they are actually selling for more than KBB values.

After all was said and done, it cost me $3500 and my old truck, a 2000, for a brandy new 08 Xtra cab.

Wow - $3500 for a brand new 4X4?! The best I have heard of anyone getting on their truck around here is $12000. That and about $13000 will get you a 2008 4cyl,manual trans 4WD. We looked at 2008 access cabs and they were running from 25k to 30k. We were not anticipating a new truck this year so are not ready to plunk down the 10+k along with our buy back.

It's NOT a TRO, didn't need all the fancy stuff.

It's a plain 4x4 Xtra cab with power windows and locks.

I shopped around and got the best price and then went back to my dealer and he made counter offer which I was very happy with.

Sounds like its the dealer you are working with giving you the problems . My Toyota dealer has done at least 50 of these .I took my truck there they inspected it said it failed gave me a rental and told me in about 14 days I would meet with a factory rep and he would cut me a check on the spot.

Nice, plus whatever incentives are available this month.

It was 1k if you bought another Toyota and $750 more for buying a Tacoma when I got mine. If you bought a Tundra, it wa like 4k more.

Went to the dealer for the inspection Friday. They were very good about the whole thing. We knew we had holes in the frame and they found more. I'm waiting to get the offer. There is no way we want to get a 2008 since it would cost us too much of our own cash so we are looking for a used tacoma. They had a 2005 with all the bells and whistles along with a few after market items. This truck was sweet, the original owner really took great care of it. We had decided that if it was still at the dealer when we get the offer, we would go on down and write a check for that bad boy but someone else did that the same day. Oh well, we'll find another one. The dealerships around here are not putting people in loaners if your vehicle is still safe to drive. I'm curious what they will do when I get my check. I assume that I will have to surrender my truck right then so they are going to have to put me in something until I find another truck.

They told us that Toyota will contact me by phone in 10 days with the buy back offer. Is this how the rest of you were contacted?

Who was offering the incentive of $1000 and $750? Was it your dealer or Toyota? I want this incentive too!!

The $1000 is part of the buyback deal. If you buy a new or certified used Toyota you get it.

The $750 was the incentive for the month of April, it may be more or less for June or any other month.

Don't know what year Toyota you had but like I've been saying, after all was said and done it cost me $3500 out of pocket for a brandy new 4x4 xtra cab.

Toyota will contact you by phone but in my case, all the paperworks and the handing over of the check, was conducted by a contract firm.

Toyota asked you certain legal questions, such as do you actually own the truck, lien, etc. They then mail you, overnight in my case, a offer letter.

You send it back, fax or they provide a overnight envelope and you then deal with the 3rd party.

The main problem with buying a used truck is that the prices are very, very high. First as they are Toyota and secondly as there aren't many around.

I pricked one on KBB like you described. I picked a 2005 Xtra cab, 4x4 with all the bells and whistles as you said and it priced out at almost 22k.

If you are will ing drop all the bells and whistles, you can get a new 4x4 xtra cab for a few thousand less than that.

Your money, your call, just don't be shortsighted. Also, all the bells and whistles means it's a v6, more gas and that dreaded timing belt to worry about every so often.

The 2005 our dealer had was priced at $18995. Compared to other dealers with this same truck they were asking about $3000 less. It was off their lot in a snap. Like I said, we weren't ready to purchase another truck so we're trying to avoid too much out of pocket expense. The best price they had on a 2008 4 cylinder manual trans was $25000. We estimate that our 97 will bring us a minimum of $10500. There don't seem to be alot of incentives from dealers in Western to Upstate New York.

Thanks for your feedback, I'll keep shopping.

The dealer has nothing to do with the incentives. It's all directly from Toyota, if there are incentives and they are not offering them to you, I'd contact Toyota.

25K ? WTF.

Mine listed for 21.5K

You really need to shop around.

The only suggestion I would have is to save your old motor oil and spray the inside of the frame. I cleaned and painted the out side of my frame every year ,it rusted from the inside out.
