help on 2004 tacoma lift kit

hey guys i am looking into getting a 3 inch lift and i have some questions. As i was reading threw here pretty much everyone on here is sayin that coil overs are the way to go. but as i am only 18 its hard to get all that cash. I was looking at a three inch leveling kit off of e bay, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1995-...Q5fAccessories,
can i have some imput what everything thinks what i should do? looking for something under 300 bucks but i want to do the lift the right way and not put any strian on any drive train components thanks!

i'd skip on that spacer kit. you probably wouldnt like the ride with them. coilovers are the way to go.....or bilstain 5100's up front...aal for the rear as a relatively cheap way to do it, and still have a good ride. have you checked toyteclifts.com yet?? they have some good coil over kits,with aal, for right at $300.

probably not the worst kit out there, but i would beware. that kit only cost 180. IMO i stick with the saying you get what you pay for. try this link: http://www.toyteclifts.com/index.php...mart&Itemid=72

thats toytec and they are a reputable place. you never know on ebay. thats pretty close to your $300 budget and better options. when lifting the rear your stock shocks are too short. that package has the new longer travel shocks. the other things you will need are a longer brake line for the rear and the proportioning valve bracket. both of which are available through them.

my 2 cents is that you do it the right way and then you only have to do it once.

i do agree, but that is what the kid is looking for so thats the one i post. if he is going to purchase a spacer lift for the front, he should go with the toytec ones since they are a reputable company. me personally i would save the $300 and get 5100s and toytec AAL....wait that is what i did

i have the exact same lift and i love it. it rides a little rough but it looks great and i installed it myself with the help of my dad. its fine for me since im only 17 and cant afford new coilovers either. yeah down the road im gonna wish i would have done the bilstiens but by then ill be able to afford some brand new Dirt Logic or FOX coilovers. so its cool for now

hey thanks guys! i think i am going to go with the 5100's i love my truck so i am going to do it the right way! and with the 5100's what size tire can i fit under it? becuase i know they only go up too 2.5 inches and i am getting the Dick Cepek DC-1s in black and was wondering what size tire i can fit under it with out any rubbing or anyother problems,, thanks

You can get 265/75/16's under it without rubbing or having to trim anything.

5100's are a good choice! as far as tire sizes go the 265/75/16 will be the biggest you can go. if you dont mind some slight trimming you can go to a 285/75/16. personally im gonna go witht the 285/70/16 which is an inch narrower since im not buying new wheels. i dont mind trimming stuff, and everyone ive talked to says no one will really be able to tell unless they look for it

285/75/16 and 285/70/16 are the same width. Different heights.

they wont rub if the backspacing is correct on the wheels. ive talked to numerous people now that have them and on stock wheels. one in particular has stock wheels and just bought some spidertrax spacers and it fits fine. he pounded down the pinch weld and trimmed the back of the wheel well where the mud flap goes and he is golden.

A 265/75/16 is 1 inch taller than a 265/70/16. This comes out to roughly a 32" tire and a 31" tire.
