Being an Cast Iron block, I dont think you would need to sleeve it.

Well what do you think the best option is to do a stock rebuild?

Depends on the condition. You should be able to bore it 020 over with no issues.

Its got 168k miles on it and its starting to get an abnormal tick, not valve train or the normal toyota tick, it sounds like pistion slap to me so i figured might as well just rebuild it before it gets worse.

As far as the gaskets im not to worried about but the pistons and bearings think i should go with some aftermarket brands or just stock?

Search out google, and see if there are some good aftermarket ones out there. If your gonna be elbow deep in the engine, you may as well get the best.

http://www.lcengineering.com/ good quality high price. They say 4 cyl but I know they have parts for the 5vz-fe
engnbldr is also very good. Don't know if the do the 3.4 though. Those will be your best quality. the engnbldr guy is a great honest guy. Have heard nothing but good things about him.

I bought aftermarket rings and gaskets on-line for my 2.7L overhaul. I checked the ring gap and it was at least 5 thou. too small. Of course the company is shipping me another set but I'm thinking Toyota would have been a better choice.
