Whats up guys, this if my first post to Tacoma World. I was taking a look under my truck today and noticed that the second catalyst on my '01 tacoma is just bolted on. This got me thinking, can I do an easy replacement of the catalyst with a straight pipe? I want to try it, but I am almost positive the check engine light will come on..

    Specs of my truck
    2001 Tacoma
    sr5
    Prerunner
    Gibson Exhaust (just the can)

    Thanks for the help,

    -Dan

I am assuming you are talking about the Catalytic converter. Yes, you can remove it. Is it illegal?-yes. Is anyone going to catch you? Probably not unless you have emissions testing in your area. I would say you wouldn't get a CEL if the O2 sensor is before the Cat. If there is a sensor after the Cat then I would say you would get a CEL. My Tahoe had 4 02 Sensors-two before and two after. What a nightmare.

you can put a "test pipe" in there... just make it bolt on so you can replace the stock catalytic when you need to get it smogged or if you get caught...
