98 with too many miles?

Im dieing to buy this 98 regular cab with the four cylinder... Its got 141,xxx miles on it. Would you be nervous about buying it?

I still live at home and Mom just keeps telling me that its too many miles. My dads honda has 150,000 and he putting tires, brakes and a new egr valve in it and thats her argument, with the high miles, that its gonna be a money pit and need new parts.

Help me out...anybody buy one with that many miles already on it?

Asking $5000... four cylinder, 5spd., 3 in. body lift with 32 in tires. E-brake cable is broken and it will need new tires soon...maybe 75% worn... Any thought?

Wow....that would be plenty of miles to last me. Did you buy them with high miles?

when i read high mileage i thought 200,000 miles

Hell, I've got 161,000+ on my '01. Those miles are high but if it had the right maintenence done it should last for a long time to come.

i have 220,000 on my dcab and still jumpin like a new truck...

you may want to ditch the body lift on it if you get it...

you could probably get a slightly newer truck with original suspension for that price...

if te suspension has been altered, be sure to check the undercarriage thoroughly... especially the body at the body lift points...

I bought my '98 ext cab, 2.7L with 190K miles on it and I've never regretted it. I picked mine up for 6,500 last summer and have since brought the milage to 205K with nothing wrong. I plan to get 300K out of her and when the engine takes a shit I'll just replace it...

I would try to talk them down to $4500 or maybe even $4000 because a set of new tires will cost you at least $600 depending on what size and style you get. I would look it over from top to bottom. Check the frame, maintenance records, ect... Also if nothing else be sure to take a test drive, very important!!! And dont worry thats nothing on a toyota 4cyl.

Hey thanks guys... 4500 was the price i had in mind cause its only booking for 4400, hopefully he will come down.

Im guessing the four cylinders are pretty low maintnence and cheap to keep up? Any examples of miscelanious things going wrong?

Modifications typically detract from the value of a vehicle. Why is he asking $600 over book value and your considering offering $100 over value? Especially when some items on the truck will require some attention. 141K miles on a Tacoma is no big deal as long as the truck wasn't abused or neglected.

I dont know why hes asking so much but hes now saying that hes got buyers wanting to pay the full 5000 ... I told him to give me a call if that doesnt work out and hopefully people arent stupid enough to pay that much over...

the truck is really clean... sadly can see people paying 5000 for it..

Sorry the pics are so big, thats the first time ive posted any and copied them stright from an email

My 96 with the 2.4 4cyl has 249k on it, very dependable truck.I'd be leary of buying 1 with a body lift and oversized tires. Is gearing corrected for the oversized tires? Oversized tires without the gearing corrected would kill the 4 bangers fuel mileage and power on the highway, could lead to premature clutch wear if its a standard. Was it just a pavement queen or was it used offroad with the mods? Just asking cuz I know what I did to my trucks back when I was young. I beat the snot outta them.
The mileage should be a non issue if it has been mantained. For me the mods throw up red flags, plus the price. For my area it would not sell for 5k, atleast I dont think it would. Prolly 4k.

i have 192k on my truck, ive had the starter rebuilt, & regular routine maintainance, thats it! bought it with 49k ive had it for 6 yrs!

also, with the bigger tires that it has, those miles more then likely wouldnt be accurate!
