Cutting out above 3000 rpm

    I purchased my 2000 Taco with 194,000 miles on it, I've put 2,000 miles on it. It runs fine unless I get it over 3,000 rpm's, at that point it has a hesitation or pause, then will pick up and go. The truck is a V6 model, standard. Does anyone have any idea's what is wrong. I was told by the dealer I bought it from that they changed the timing belt at 161,000 miles and one of the CDI boxes (??) was changed at 190,000. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Could be a coil, or a MAF sensor. With out a CEL it's gonna hard to determine the problem over the internet.

    Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    It could be a fuel system issue as there really aren't too many CEL's for that. Maybe the Fuel Pressure Regulator is dropping out or maybe the fuel filter needs changed or maybe a vacuum leak.

    To check for a vacuum leak, get a propane torch and turn it on (don't light it). You just want the gas to come out. Point it at your vacuum lines. If there is a leak, the engine will start to rev higher.

    The Fuel filter is under the left side cab on the frame rail.

    The check the FPR, you can pinch off the return line and see if you can duplicate the "engine stumble" above 3k RPM.

    Thanks for the suggestions. I'm fixing to get started trying to figure it out. I will start with the easiest things and go from there.

    I really didn't think it was fuel because the truck is still getting 17-1/2 mpg and that's 70% of all the driving in 1st or 2nd gear on the ranch.

    But, I really don't know so I'll keep everyone posted on what it turns out to be.
