my truck died again!!!!!!!!

my truck died again. if i dontrun it on break (20 mins) or lunch(30mins) then the battery dies out. i listen to the radio during these times one guy atwork told me it was my day time running lights can these be disabled?

 

im not sure bought the truck last feb. still looks good and new i kno that doesnt mean anything tho lol

 

autozone/advance/pepboys should offer free battery testing. get that done and report back.

check the battery,the charging system, and for a draw

 

with the truck running unhook the negative battery terminal if it dies check the alternator. if not it sounds like you are drawing power from some where obviously. start checking in the fuse block with the key off and see if you have any power anywhere.

 

I had the same problem, thought it was my piggyback, turned out I had a crack in the bottom of my battery.. damnit! LOL

 

Also make sure you don't have any cell phone chargers or FM transmitters plugged into any power ports. My old truck died after 2 days of sitting in the driveway b/c I had a charger plugged in. Seems dumb but it actually draws a lot of amps, especially if the charger is faulty.

 

How would this happen?

None of my ports have power when key is off.

 

I've always been told that you should NEVER disconnect a battery cable while the engine is running. The resulting voltage surge can fry your ECU.

 

^^ never heard that. i'll have to look it up and find out if your right. ive done it in several cars and never had a problem tho

I forgot that Toyota has intelligent engineers. My fault, my last truck was a GMC.

 

Dont do this!!!!! In newer age vehicles it will cause voltage spikes that will fry computer modules in the vehicle. You can really only use this technique with much older vehicles. I'm a technician by trade and this is something they pound into your heads whenever you are in tech school. If you start your truck and the truck runs fine once you get it started its not your charging system. Definitely get your battery tested, I am willing to be that your battery is toast.
