Weatherstripping........2001 Tacoma

I have used the search function already and have not had any luck. Does anyone know of a place to purchase oem type weatherstripping for a 2001 Toyota Tacoma TRD Xtra Cab? My truck started out life in the desert and now 80,000 miles later it is suffering from dry compressed weatherstripping. In other words, when you close the doors or roll down the window the weatherstripping does not contact the surfaces that it should to seal it up. I would like to replace the entire setup around both dorrs and windows. Thanks in advance for any help.

Is that the door weatherstip or the window weatherstrip?

 

I should replace meine soon as well. My doors are cracked or have slits in them and my windows dont even have contact.

 

If you mean the weatherstrip across the bottom of the window (which the FSM calls "weatherstrip"), it cost about $30 for each side at the dealership. I just got a 2001 and they were totally shot, too: hard, bent out, alligatored.

I did it in November and took pics (including part numbers), but I have just been too damn busy to post a write-up yet. It seems common, and is a really easy job and well worth it. But the FSM really shows no detail, and I think people get worried that they are going to break and bend stuff.

Well I ordered the drivers side weatherstripping first. I got both the large stripping that goes all the way around the door and then the small drip guard that goes at the top of the doorframe. I went to the dealership and both of them together cost me $153. That being said.... man did I need them. Now when the door is closed and I pull up on the handle the door, for lack of better terms, pops open. They are really sealed up now. I will get the other side on my next paycheck. I used 3m super black weatherstripping adhesive to make sure they stay in place. Several weeks back I got the weatherstripping for the windows too. The strip that goes on the outside and wipes the window when you roll it up or down. Man mine were shot. I guess that is what I get for buying a desert (AZ.) truck. I does give me something to do on boring days though.

PharmerJon Thanks for the links and the part numbers. I only wish I would have checked back here before I went to the dealer. To be honest though I only paid about $20 more for the drivers side. I guess it wasn't that bad. Thanks again for your reply.

 

How difficult is it to replace the drip rail?

 

Well, when I say drip rail I may be using the wrong term. There are two pieces of rubber weatherstripping around the door opening. The larger one goes all the way around the opening. The other, the one I called the drip rail, goes up at the very top of the cab above the larger one . It goes all the way across the top of the door opening down the a pillar and ends up just inside the edge of the fender. It was very easy to replace this piece. It was not glued on and it sort of snaps into place.

*** On a different note......the damn thing still leaks. Guess I am gonna have to take the fender off and look there for the leak. If I put just a little more silicone on it I think I could probably float it across the river.***

Thread revival. I have a 2000 2-door Xtra Cab taco and I think the weatherstripping is due for a replacement. Wind noise is getting worse, to the point that every time I get on the highway I feel like my windows/doors are cracked open. I was just going to get the generic weather stripping at an auto parts store but everyone here is talking about the OEM stuff... Is it worth it?

 

Ithink this thread is now talking about 2 different weatherstrips. The "weatherstrip" as Toyota calls the part is the pice of trim at the bottom of the door window, and it is notorious for turning to shit.

I think these other guys started talking about door seals, which sounds like your issue. Mine are good, so, sorry, can''t help.

 

I understand the difference between the two. What I want to replace is what you call the "door seal." Can I do that with generic stuff from the auto store?

How hard was it to scrape the weather stripping and glue off before you installed the new stuff? I can't imagine it would be that hard to do, the whole process taking maybe 30 minutes?

I've been looking for these things everywhere as mine are completely finished. I finally got a price from toyota for the front seals and they were 230$ CAD each. I have to replace all 4 of mine because the water keep pooling on the bottom and it almost seems likes the rubber has expanded over time (probably from 20 years of undercoating). I'm probably looking at almost a thousand bucks to replace all 4 but I was just wondering if you guys would know of any decent/more affordable aftermarket options.

Yes, the door weatherstrip/seals are expensive as frig, I know... but you can find rolls of automotive weatherstrip on ebay, Amazon, aliexpress. Just be careful about choosing the right one because there is many different shapes and sizes available
