Lift question please help

So im thinking of installing a 3 inch Revteck lift on my 96 Tacoma, but I hear people saying get billstein 5100's so do I put those on with the lift or does it lift the front by itself?

 

the 5100's are adjustable and by themselves can lift the front 2.5". much better than a spacer lift like the revtek your thinking about. i had a spacer lift before and trust me, it sucks. go with the 5100's

 

Would i be able to clear 33's? and what did you put in the rear?

 

You forgot to ask me Phil , lol, yeah bro' fuck the spacer lift they blow, & you can clear 33" with the Bilstien 5100 series. Not only are the 5100's an awesome shock but it'll adjust up to 2.5" of honest lift using your stock coil over springs, can't go wrong & I think they're about $80 - $90 a shock, pretty reasonable price for a true performance lift.........

LOL, OK Phil, time for truck lifts 101 , first off completely erase & forget anything regarding spacers & blocks, they aren't a cheap "fix" or "Mod" they're just cheap & you'll live to regret having either one. ANY LIFT YOU DO !!, should be done thru suspension upgrades. I know, I know, it gets expensive but the improvement & SAFETY upgrade you get , you can't put a price on, enough said about that. NOW , you have a couple of choices as far as rear springs go, most guys just shit can the OEM leaf pack & go to an aftermarket brand, I'm a little different, I'd try just re-arcing slightly the stock springs with the addition of 1 or 2 aftermarket leaf springs because of this simple fact..... Most agree (including myself) that Toyota uses a softer steel to make their leaf springs & its a bummer because the spring rate is wonderfully progressive but THE FUCKING SPINGS WONT HOLD AN ARC FOR LONG. Thats why I would first try to salvage the OEM leaf pack & adding/re-arcing . Then see how long it last without flattening out.......... Thats what I would try first anyway

Yeah I agree with these guys. I would say go no cheaper than 5100s on the corners and AAL in the rear. You could also add OME 881s if you want nicer/stiffer/stronger coils up front.
And if you really wanted to spend money, screw the Toyota springs and AAL and go with OME (Emu Dakar) rear springs. just IMO though. Have it myself and love it.

 

I hope this is not too late.I've got a '96 Taco as well and I'm going through suspension hysteria right now.I got a local guy to put on rear packs cause the stock ones were breaking.He put a new set on but had to move the front hangers forward.DON'T DO IT ! Little known to me or him,that move raised the back of the truck up about 3".Add the fact that the leaf packs were designed to give 2.5" of lift,the damn thing looks like a 60's muscle car.When I first saw it I thought it was still on the jack stands.
DO NOT BUY REAR SPRINGS for your 1st Gen Tacos WHERE YOU HAVE TO MOVE THE HANGERS ! Unless you want that much lift,of course.But for the guys who just want 2 or so inches,be careful.I am now looking at OME springs.They are a direct bolt in and will give about 2.25" of lift at the back and decent load carrying ability.I've also heard that pre Taco springs will work as well.1989 to 1994.Also...for the front, Bilstein all the way.Caution though....different suspension shops or dealers have different configurations of adjustable coilovers.Some Billys have 3 adjustment rings,others have a threaded body for fine adjustments.All are still 0" to about 3" of adjustment.Depends who you deal with.I got the threaded bodys so I can do fine adjustments later,if I have to.Also different spring rates are offered.Because my truck is stock 2.7 4cyl,I got the 550Lb springs.They also offer coils for stock V6 and guys with front winches etc.These coils are made by Eiback.The same spring manufacturer that supplies springs for Porche.

Yes, they were not the right springs. The 95.5-97 tacos actually had pickup springs, which are shorter. You purchased the wrong springs (you bought tacoma springs probably) and told the guy to install them so he did.

I have OME suspension, but I had to buy the pickup leafs and NWOR shackles [instead of the OME ones] in order to make it work. If you already got the hangar moved and fitted for tacoma springs then get OME tacoma springs, otherwise look at my mod list for the right parts.

 

Actually,in my case,I didn't buy the leafs.I just took my truck to a spring shop and asked the guy to replace the stock springs(what was left of them).Whoever he got the springs from got it wrong.He just went by their advice and cut off the stock hangers and welded in the new ones.
Ya....the springs are definitely for a 2nd Gen Taco.If they don't work out,I'm gonna tear them out,get the OME's,put new hangers on,at the stock location and try it again.No fault to the installer.Not completely anyway.Both he and I should've known.
MAN,I tell ya,it does pay to study up on this shit.Don't trust anybody.
