Lost my power steering- is it the pump or pulley?

I have a 1995 tacoma 6-cylinder. Over the last three weeks my power steering pump has progressively gotten louder. Two days ago, I lost my power steering, and the pump is incredibly loud. I think I need to replace the pump. But I have one question:

-How do I know if I need to replace the pump or the pulley for the power steering?

I'm gona go with the pump, they are notorious for their short life. don't buy a remanufactured pump, they don't last. I actually just rebuilt my pump last night, I'll let you know how it went, but I think yours is beyond rebuild.

 

On my 2000, the pulley had all of the splines stripped off of it.

Yeah, probably the pump though. Wouldnt hurt to check the pulley though. Some pumps won't come with the pulley and you need to transfer it to the new pump. And if the pulley is bad they are not cheap from toyota, thats for sure. They charged me 110 for JUST THE PULLEY!
