I just bought this truck with 93,000 miles on it. Any particular service or other issues I should check? I'm changing all the fluids today, having belts checked. Anything else? I saw the "rusty frame" issue, but there doesn't appear to be an inordinate amount of rust anywhere.

Was there a remote keyless entry available from Toyota when it was new? It has power door locks, but no keyless.

What size speakers can I install in the four factory spots? I think it calls for the 5 1/4 inch round, but has anyone squeezed in 6 1/2 inchers?

Thanks in advance for any advice. I parked my F-150 4x4 and will use this for commuting and hauling dirt bikes out to the desert. I already am in love with this little truck!

the rusty frame issue...IF you have it...is from the inside of the frame out...being that your from Cali i highly doubt you have this issue though

there shouldve been keyless entry available...cant remember if its RS3000 or RS3200

There was no factory keyless entry option in the 1999 model year. If you wanted that function you had to add an accessory (e.g., Toyota or aftermarket alarm) to get it.

Timing belt is due at 90K miles. Was that done?
Oh, crap, sorry, you have a 2.4, not 3.4. My bad. I don't know what the 2.4 needs.

Do you have any records? If not, you should do the whole 30K service. If it has a service record/schedule in the glovebox, check that.

The other things I have discovered (on this site and on my truck) are steering rack bushings get soft, can replace with urethane (I think) Energy kit along withthe sway bar bushings, and the leaf springs are weak and sag. I'd like to do all this eventually...

the leaf springs are notorious for wearing out of the 1st gens (had it myself) the worst problem one would experience would be axle warp after coming to a hard/quick stop. being that yours is a stick ( that's what she said), you shouldn't experience it. anyhow, congrats on your tacoma, and I hope you enjoy it.

We still get axle wrap on hard/jerky shifts. Its annoying.
