Flowmaster muffler????

Will adding a flowmaster 40 series muffler add more power to my 2.7 4cyl? Looking for any kind of power mods and heard exhaust is one way to go along with CAI.... Suggestions??

nah......a flowmaster muffler can actually make ya lose some hp. best bet is to get a dynomax super turbo muffler, and do the deckplate mod. a good header wouldnt be bad either, but all those gains arent gonna be a whole lot.

I must agree, you will only gain small amounts. There will be noticeable differences, but none that will absolutely amaze you. You could also check out a throttle body spacer if they have one for your motor. But again like tacomaman said you won't really be able to tell a whole lot. I have a flowmaster 40 series on my truck, and I haven't noticed any hp drop or gain. My buddy has a super 44 and it sounds so good, I recommend it for sound but not sure on the hp. I can get some sound clips together if you wanna hear them both.

i have a 40 series on my 2.7, with a K&N and the TRD throttle spacer. wayyyy better throttle response, and its super loud in the higher rpms. sounds surprisingly throaty. i just had a shop weld in the 40 and kept all smog equipment. posted 0s on both my smog levels, its an 03.

The flowmaster does nothing trust me. That was the first performance mod I did. It does sound great though. I can attest to the minimal gains on our engines. I have a flowmaster, throttle body spacer, k@N cai, and a LCE header. All this does help but the only time I really notice it is during WOT above say 3k rpm. BTW dont bother with the throttle body spacer its nothing more than a expensive paperweight IMO.

I had the same questions you did, and someone told me something about a flywheel on your motor, but he said basically the same thing, either it helps a tiny bit, or not at all. And a buddy of mine wanted to do head work to his, but I dunno if he's gonna follow through with it.

so basically all you did to help performance is the k&n....

do the deckplate mod, get a full exchaust system (not pepboys stuff) thats really about all you can do.

I don't think you'll gain an ounce of HP but I can tell you that 40 series is going to be loud. I have the same truck you do and I have the DF 50 series. When it was first installed it was louder than I expected and I wasn't sure if I liked it. It's grown on me and now I really like it. Had it been the 40 series, it may have been to ricey since I have a 4cyl.
