CV axles?

How many of you have replaced your axles (Half-Shafts), or the CV boots? Who is interested in quality replacements? Or Heavy Duty Boots?

 

My truck is less than a year old and I hate the cv's especially the boots. I'd eventually buy some good ones.

 

Considering offering quality replacement axles if there is enough intrerest.

i might be in need of new CV's soon. so this would be good timing if they're aren't too expensive

 

Good quality as in really strong or as in can handle more angle or both? If they are too strong I thought that puts other things in the front diff at risk.

 

On second thought could they would it be possible to make them really strong and then have some sort of shear pin that's easily replaceable?

 

haha too much time on a walker. shear pins and all. but you do gotta think where you want the weak link at.

 

Yeah exactly! Surprisingly I have yet to break one.

I just think it would be a good idea because then it would save the rest of the front drive train and if put in the right spot wouldn't even require removal of the cv. That would make them a ton easier to fix on the trail.

 

Dan, Since this was posted in "1st gen", are these going to be for the 1st gens only, or are they going to be available for the 2nd gens also?

 

Basically, they would be available for most years of tacomas, tundras, 4runners, and FJ Cruisers. I posted on the 1st gen because the trucks are a little older and more likely to need them.

 

alright, thats what I needed to know. I'd be interested. Im sure i'll break a CV at some point. But, think you guys could also sell optional extended length ones to work with the All Pro LT kits, etc? I want to go LT at some point but with the kit its necessary to buy extended shafts that then have to be assembled with the stock components, this route would be much more simple.

 

So are a lot of you breaking axles? Or just having the boots tear?

 

My problems have been with the boots.

I haven't broken an axle but I wheel fairly often so there is a chance I will. I've been meaning to buy one just to carry with me on the trail as a spare. However, I've heard solid arguments that it's good that the axle is the weak link. If they break, they're fairly easy to change and much cheaper than the next step up the chain, the diff.

 

i'd defenetly be interested in these if they stronger than oem. i've replaced my cv's twice since i've had the truck and i've replaced the boots once. i've never snapped an axle but the joints usually wear out on me and start to klunk really loud and the boots always tear.

 

I have replaced both sides on my 1995, the boots were torn both times. I have really put some pressure on my half shafts before and haven't had them break (knock on wood). I would definitely be interested especially if the boots were a little sturdier. I can't remember what I paid, but would definitely be interested in a comparably priced unit with better longevity.

 

So what do you guys think of new replacement Half-shafts, Stock strength, with Heavy Duty Boots already installed on them.
