Ok i know alot of people know this already but i havent seen any with pictures so i figured i would write this up.

This will show what you need to do to make the door chime not work with key in, turned to ACC, when you turn the key to ON the chime works as normal, I have not had any problems with this mod.

I am sorry for the Blurry pictures. they are from my cell.

These pictures are of a 99 tacoma 4x4 3rz auto ext cab, and a 96 tacoma 2wd 2rz manual reg cab.

This mod took me all of 5mins and worked like a charm...or should i say chime:D

Ok you will need to remove the cover from under the dash, it is attached to the hood release. there are 4-10mm bolts and one phillips head screw. the cover will swing down far enough to have complete access to the plug you need to unplug with the hood release still attached.

This picture is for the 99 taco's but the 96 was just the same. (cover removed)

This is also the 99(small white plug still plugged in)

This also is the 99 (small white plug removed)

This is the 96 taco, this Blue plug only has two wires running to it, it plugs into a black connector.

    96 Taco plug in.

    UPDATE:

on my 99 tacoma. there are more wires that where unplugged than on my 96 tacoma. my 99 is a SR5 model. it has power door locks as a part of the package. my 96 is a base model. power nothing... in my 99 taco if you leave the keys in the ignition and lock the doors with the doors open it would unlock them right after you tryed to lock it. now with the plug unplugged they will lock with the keys in the ignition.

If you do this mod you better not leave your keys in the ign. and lock the doors and shut em.. your fail safe no longer works.

Thanks for this! The pictures are just clear enough for the purpose so no worries.

Interesting. I bought my 03' used and it doesn't have a door chime. I guess another Tacoma "enthusiast" took care of that for me. :)
