Skid Plate Bedliner "How to"

Looked under my truck this morning and saw that my skid plate was a little rusty. Decided to get the Duplicolor Truck Bedliner in a spray can..

Really easy to apply.

First, I uninstalled my plate, be sure to get the exact size, or else you will strip the bolt..

I had some grease on the inside of my plate, so I got some dish soap and went at it with a bristle brush. After I repeated that about 3 times, I sanded down an area where the rust patch was. Also, after the plate dried, I took mineral spirits to it and it got the remaining gunk off.

I epoxyed the rust patch so it would be even once I painted.

After that, just spray the bedliner on! Make sure to allow it to dry about 10 minutes inbetween coats. I got about 2 coats on each side.

About 9 bucks at your hardware store.

Thanks man. I honestly wanted a gritty surface, like Herculiner, but this will due. It has enough texture to prevent scratches and look good. And touch up is easy

You should do the other skid plate too. Only 2 bolts holding it on now that you have the big one off.

 

I was debating that. Maybe I'll grab another can tomorrow. Did you do yours?

Line-X would be nice but this is just a little cosmetic touch up.

 

No, mine are still in pretty good shape but eventually.

 

Finished everything today and installed it. Got another can of the Liner and did my other skid plate like steve 0 77 said to. Everything turned out great, I'm really happy with the product, I even did my bed rings!

I took a picture on top of the toolbox to show the texture.

Thanks for the extra help! In 2 days, all the little projects include: Bedliner Skid Plates and Bed Rings, Put my Wheelers Spacers on, Changed my oil, Painted my Toyota emblem, and Painted my rear bumper. About to go take off my mudflaps haha

 

yeah but how durable is that coating from debris chips?

i am a noob at this and have tried removing the skid plate before and failed, but what do you mean by "be sure to get the exact size, or else you will strip the bolt.."

 

Get the right sized wrench for the bolts. If it is too large it will just strip the bolts.

 

Those metric bolts are soft, and some antisieze or grease isn't a bad idea for them either...especially for you guys who have real winters. Way to keep them looking good guys.

I also dropped my two front skid plates and use duplicolor bedliner spray pnt. It came out awsome, duplicolor made some quality paint, went on easy & looks professional. You wouldn't know a novice painter did it. I dropped my gas tank skid and am in the middle of wirer wheeling it, so I can do the same.

I plan on going to ace hardware and picking up some SS hardware.

I have been driving for exactly a month with the Paint on now and it still looks like I just put it on. No chips and it still has the nice rough texture. My skid definetely shows more because of my lift and it looks great!
