I took off my mud flaps bc...well I just really didn't like them. My "all-knowing" father says that my truck will get really scarred up w/o them. True or just bullshit? I don't think it will be a major deal bc i don;t wheel much, and my old truck didnt have them. She looked good, and i did wheel alot in her.

All depends on where your driving I got my truck from a old man who took the flaps off the day he bought the truck new from the dealership drove it for 14 years now and hardly anything. Also Toyota puts rock guard along the bottom of the panels so you should be fine.

Yes you will f your truck up. When I had my 98 the guy who owned it before me took them off and the side was kinda jacked. Also, the mud and road grime will end up all over your truck. Just my .02

:cool:True!!! if you drive in a lot of dirt, rocks, mud or snow!! but on a road i dont think so! The first mod i did to my new2008 DC was take mine off and put them in the trash can!! if you go off road they will hit uneven ground/ bumps!:smack:

    TBD
i took min off the day i got it. i think i have 1 or 2 tiny chips on the sides. the mudflaps dont protect everything anyways. Taking them off makes the truck look cleaner IMO.

+1 and not only that, but they're just looking to get broken off when doing any serious off roading.

One of mine ripped off so I pulled the other off. Idk about laws in VT, but they didnt make much difference in the first place because I have 1" spacers and 11.50" wide tires, so they stick out pretty far anyways.

if you are worried about paint chipping, you can buy some clear 3M protection film. Mine will be coming off in the next couple weeks.

I had some of the clear plastic stone guard added to the bedsides behind the rear wheels. Cost me $35 I think. It is the same product they put across the hoods of sports cars. Works like a charm!

Dude, its all what you want. Its your truck and not your dads. I took mine off and my truck looks brand new. If you do alot of off road and you kick up rocks. you might chip paint on the rockers but you cant see under that anyway. so I say fuck it and do what you want. Its your truck.

YES. Taking off the mud flaps will contribute to more rock damage on your truck. My Tacoma had no front mud flaps when I bought it, but did have the running boards and rear mud flaps. I switched the running boards for some nerf bars and did notice that I started to get some small rock chips along the rocker panels. They do have a protective coat, but any little rocks that are being thrown against it are gonna eventually make some chips (doesn't matter if you only drive in the city, there are still rocks/pebbles in the road). The more "aggressive tread" tire you have will throw more rocks. If you've got some MTs or aggressive ATs you'll be throwing rocks against your truck. The mud flaps are there for a reason.

^^Thats what Im ganna do this summer.. I got soo many rock chips on my rocker from having no front flaps off. And now Im thinking about taking my rears off, just bc I think it looks goofy having my tire stick out a inch or so past the flap. But then again it is protecting some what....
