I just bought some BFGs and my mpg went down. Just curious what anyone is getting with 265/75/16.

I would think it would have minimal effect as those are barely taller than the originals.
I am also curious though. |

Don't think it is the size as much as guys going to heavier tires from stock , ( in 265/75/16 or 265/70/17 )

I have an '01 2.7 Taco ExtraCab SR5 with 169,000+ miles on her. I have had 265s on all three pair of rubbers; stock Bridgestones, Toyo’s ATs and most recently, Yokohama Geolander ATS. The Geo’s are 265/70/16, not the 75s you are considering. The best I have ever gotten was 23mpg on the road with my Toyo’s, ran them over inflated. I ended up ruining those tires by running them over inflated to long....but I did get my money out of them (75K). I just put up with the tire noise until they were shot.
I check my mileage religiously and I can tell you the tires really made little to no difference in mpg. In the winter, I get around 16.5 because of the winter fuel formula. The worst I have ever gotten was 14.4 and my light was on. Yep, bad O2 sensor. Replaced that and all was well. Actually, ended up replacing both at about 120K That first O2 (or AF) sensor is important as it modifies fuel delivery. The one after the cats do little, from what I understand. I also keep my throttle body clean and swab the Map sensor with quality CRC cleaner as well. The only mod I have done is the deck mod. I did tape off that resonator box but the noise was driving me nuts. I also have 5100 Billys with about 1+ in lift. So I typically get around 18mpg…..17 if all driving is around town, 21+ on the road with my 265/70/16s….just keep em inflated. Good clean working sensors are more important in my opinion. http://www.stylintrucks.com/parts.as...2122&scid=AFFP |

My last two fill ups with the same tire (mine are 10 ply, 3ply sidewall, and E load) netted 18.4mpg and 19.2 mpg on the last fill up (These are the only 2 fill up since getting the new tire/wheels installed). I was seeing 20-21 mpg on the stock TRD Sport wheels and tires.
I know this is a 1st Gen Forum, but the MPG drops I expect would be about the same.

Well on my 02 TRD 4x4 with 265/75/16 i am getting 250 miles per tank, I ran a set of 31x10.5x15 last month just to see and I was getting 310 per tank, So I would say yes tire size makes a difference.

I put 265 75 16 tires on and get about the same mileage. I am saving about 10-14 miles on the odometer per tank, but it starts going empty on my fourth trip to work just as it did before. It fills up with about the same amount of gallons too.
Even though it seems like I'm using more fuel, I am really not. I am saving miles on the truck though. ![]()

I have 265 75 16 A/T tires and I run at the max recommended PSI and I recently did the deckplate mod and now I am getting right at 18mpg.
But once you start hauling something with it she starts drinking the gas.

I have noticed that as the weather is getting warmer my millage is getting better, must be the gas has less ethanol.

I matinece my truck all the time. Check fluids, air, cleaned my throttle body all that good stuff. Iv installed the deck plate about a year ago. I'm think it was a bad week. Getting over that hill probably sucked up my gas. Plus stop and go traffic doesn't help. Seems like my mileage is ok. At about a half tank I get about 150 miles, just like with the stock tires. Idk. I'll keep you guys posted

I just put on 265/75/16 Firestone Destination A/T that are about 8 lbs per tire lighter than my previous tires, and my MPG went UP. So, as someone previously stated, its more the weight of the tire than the size.
This was the deciding factor for me as I drive 80 miles a day on the highway. I pulled the trigger on the General grabber at2 but pulled out because they are heavier. not good if you have a 4 banger especially!!
