Lift opinion

Well...after being on here for a few months I have decided to lift my 04 Tacoma Xtra cab 4x4. I want to stay at a decent budget that will include a 3" lift and either 32" (or maybe 33") tires (something aggressive like BFG AT's, Good Year Dura Tracs, Nitto Trail Grapplers or Toyo Open Country MT's) on 16" Moto Metal 955's.

I was quoted a very reasonable price by a VERY reputable local shop for a 3" Tuff Country lift at about $1000.00 including a realignment. However, I was advised by someone else that's reputable that an Icon 3" lift is waaaaay better, only the lift will cost 2x as much as the Tuff Country. I'd love to do the Icon's but that throws the budget way off and I lose the chance of putting the tires/wheels on at the same time of the lift. I don't do a lot off off-roading BUT I'd love something reliable when I actually go out and attempt this. However, I am not looking to jump my truck 20ft in the air, etc. Just something that will reliably get me through decent trails with no issues. The truck will be on the road 95% of the time so whats everyone's comments/advice/opinion?

Not sure about the lift...but I have a 3 inch fabtech that I love! Never given me problems and I got it for around $1200 back in 08.

Definitely go with 33's tho...the bigger the better in my opinion.

 

I would go IVD stage 2 no doubt. Icon are coilovers and they are rebuildable vs spacer crap lift. Better ride, better upgradability. Have you ask them if they can ToyTec/OEM? ToyTec also makes a ULK.

if you are lookin to spend about 1000 take a look at the Toy tec ultimate kit. I got it on my truck and rides and drives perfect. no shimmy or anything, it actually rides better then stock. Great set up for the 1000$

 

Coilovers would be much easier to install for the shop...the spacers will require a spring compressor. The coilovers is basically 3 bolts up top and a bottom bolt...then remove stock coil over and put the new coilovers in. Adjust to height and good to go.

 

You could also go with an Old Man Emu 3'' lift I paid $699.00 from Toytec for mine and put it on in my driveway. That included new shocks, front springs and a rear add a leaf. Then I have some 265/75/16 Goodyear Duratrac's

 

Looks good. However it sounds like I may have to increase my budget from $2500 to $3500 just to be safe. I may go look at the Toytecs.

 

I'd love to talk about it. I could really use some sound advice to make a good decision. The truck was bought in Jan 05 from a Toyota dealer in the Pac NW (where I was living at the time) with 5000 miles on it. I'll PM ya some info.
