Don't get the 2000. The 2000 had smaller brake calipers. Get ones from like an 05 Tundra DC with the 13WL casting. You can pick up rebuilt calipers from Kragen for 80 bux a pop (yeah there's a $75 core but you think they care when you return a tacoma caliper in a Tundra box?). You can get brand new rotors for another 85 each. And then just pick your pad. Best part...no more warping like everyone else complains about.

You will need to bend the dust shield and either need to cut off 1/8-1/4" of length off the banjo bolt or just buy new brakes lines (which comes with a new bolt) from wheelers. Other than that its bolt off bolt on.

hey guys i just called toyota on my oem rotors and front pads and for all that they wanted to charge me $$250!! i thought that was crazy and to offer no warrantee is crazy. i bought a set of napa pads and rotors and that was not a smart move, they SUCK! so my question is am i crazy to think that thats a crazy price or is everything running around that price? and so many people are sugesting many different things what would be the best over all pad and rotor combo?

really depends if you are looking for performance rotors, or normal rotors. i say if you want normal rotors....go with oem toyota rotors, and either their pads or something like hawk or wagner thermoquiet ceramics. if you want performance rotors........slotted....go with some ebc, hawk, or s/p.....and some good pads. good rotors arent necessarily cheap.

that being said...if you want to stick with stock/oem stuff.....check rockauto.com.........their stuff is way cheaper than the stealership.

that really depends on how you drive....but slotted rotors help the brakes run cooler and gives better pedal feel.

no. im saying performance stuff should last a little longer cause it can handle abuse better. therefore....if you are doing normal driving....you shouldnt have any problem at all...........but that said, for normal driving...stock brakes are ok.

i have ebc rotors and greenstuff pads. they feel much better then stock to me. just smoother and more responsive. stoc i didnt much care for had to replace/turn to often and i dont brake that hard i shift down as much as possible.

Ok, I gotta ask a dumb question... I'm looking at RockAuto and see rotors starting from $16 (another dumb question--are these per rotor, or per pair? I have to assume per rotor--so $32/pair?). Then I go to Wheelers and see the slotted and drilled rotors for up to $185/pair. Thats $150 difference. In your guys' opinions, is it worth the $150?? I actually have no problem paying that difference since the stealership quoted me almost $700 to replace the pads and rotors, and I'm going to do it myself. But I don't want to spend money unnecessarily, either.

For reference, I drive about 33,000 miles a year, almost all highway, no offroading, somewhat aggressive driver, but not crazy aggressive. Looks like I had my repair guy (local, not dealership) replace the pads and rotors at 140k, and the truck has 248k on it now. According to the receipt, the pads he put on were $60 and the rotors were $150.

The stuff is looking good to me, but just curious what you guys think...

Did you get the Hawk LTS? If so, how have you liked them so far with the stock rotors?

I need new pads ASAP. I measured my rotors and, assuming i did it correctly, they are 21.5 mm thick which is only 1/4th of the way towards out of spec. However, can you mate something like the hawk LTS or the Porterfeild z26 with the stock rotors with positive results?

I haven't checked the rear shoes yet, but i'd like to get them anyway since if i don't need them now, i'll need them eventually. For the rear do I need anything besides the shoes? I see wheelers sells the shoes, as well as some sort of "rear brake set".
