Replace a 5-speed with an automatic?

    don't do it! the manual is so much better than the auto. I can't stand driving my buddies auto after driving my standard

    I would just leave the manual in. Do you know how hard it is going to be to find a low mileage tranny? You have a 1992 Tacoma with 85,000 miles! When you find a auto tranny it is going to have probably >180,000 miles on it (average mileage is 10-12k miles/year) and will become the weakest link in your truck.
