From a dead stop, If I accelerate hard and have my truck reach 3K RPM, the engine sound would get much coarser and louder as it approaches 3K and I would feel more vibration. Is this normal of the 3400 + 4 speed auto?

Yes, and it will be even more awesome if you do the deck plate mod.

steve: fer real? That's normal? I also tried it when I had the gear in 1st and kept acceleration towards 3K and I thought my truck was going to vibrate itself apart...

    Has it always done that?

My truck has a vibration around 3k too...except it isn't supposed to have it. I'm thinking its my heatshields on the exhaust.

Wait, mine does not have a vibration like you described. It just sounds... awesome i guess. Maybe your just not used to the truck and think the vibration is worse than it really is?

mine sounds coarser and vibrates more on the stick shift right at 3k but a any bit below or above it goes back. I kind of like it because it made it easier to learn to drive stick and when to shift. (my truck was my first stick shift)

I've only had the truck for about 4 months and it's been doing that since I got it.. so I guess I don't know if it's normal or poinst to something is wrong..

I was revving it up in a parking lot in L gear and when it got to 3K, it was loud and vibrating like hell (I guess I'll need to try again and confirm that ) and I got scared so I shifted up to 2..

Okay just tested it again.. gave it good gas while I was at 25mph and at 3K I only felt some additional vibration at the steering wheel and the gas pedal. This is consistent with what you guys experience right?

so with a deckplate mod, I would expect the throaty sound I get now at 3K to get louder? Is that the only change? Or would that throaty sound come out at even lower RPM?

Yes, the sound at 3k would get louder when you have the deck plate out. With it in, you go back to stock sound and power.
