The tendency to upsize vehicles in general and small trucks in particular is frustrating. I look at small trucks from the 70s and 80s (Toy, Mazda/Ford, Datsun) and think that is a perfect size for a small truck for someone like me that wants to haul a refrigerator (for example) every once in a while.

I'm saving up for a Tacoma, but it'll have be a 1st gen as they are just too freaking big now. Seriously, they look like full size trucks used to.

Sorry to necropost. And, hi, new forum member here.

there's not nearly that much difference in the size of the two.

Argggh. Browser crashed while I was composing a thoughtful answer. Short, retyped version follows.

The 2G looks huge to me. Didn't recognize it as a taco when I first saw it.

Wiki page specs would indicate the 2G regular cab is at least 6" longer, 6" wider, and 4" taller than early 1G trucks. Which were already 3" longer and 3" taller than the "pickup" it replaced. That's not a trivial difference, IMO.
