My co-worker got the letter last year for his 2002. He had his frame sprayed last fall and he is already seeing rust come through the coating.

Dude, you gotta read before you make a new thread. The 01-04 Tacomas do NOT get a buyback. They get new frames upon failure, and a serious undercoat when they pass.

I had mine inspected yesterday and it failed. I spent 2 hours threre and asked alot of ?'s. I was told toyota had frames made, me thinks they were anticipating this. It's cheaper for them to reframe than to buy back because these are newer trucks and fetch more resale. Your better off if it fails than to get the treatment, IMO, it's just a bandaid. I'm getting a new frame, leaf springs, control arms, brake proportioning valve, brake lines and all new hardware. And they'll replace other stuff, you supply the parts. I'm replacing the shocks and bushing while it's torn down. A buy back was mentioned in my letter, but I think it was a last resort. Repaired or replaced are their first options.

If your truck fails, this is what you get. A new frame, new leaf springs, brake proportioning valve, brake lines, control arms, and the hardware. I probably missed a thing or two. Everything else is as I said earlier, you bring the parts in they will install them. They have to reinstall the old stuff anyway, why not replace it. It's a no brainer, free labor.

i got my 03 inspected last weekend... it passed and i live in MA...where they salt the streets every weekend in the winter. Im supposed to go for an undercoating, buttt should i trust something that coats the outside of the frame when the frame rots from inside to out? and its probably a rattle can spray.

WELL. I have an 03 and live where the winter calls for daily saltings. so when i bought my truck used from the dealer i though that it might be a good time to get a proper undercoat done. paid and arm and a leg for it and now im wondering if i get at letter saying i need to come on for a frame inspection and it passes its already coated. so what the hell. are they gunna re-emburse me for my initial investment? i kinda think not.
hoping i get a letter and failed frame.

Nothing wrong with doing this work yourself. I would go to the dealer and get the 15 year warranty, but there are products that inhibit rust. When my truck gets the spray, I may go over it myself after they are done.
