    Hi Guys,

I'm helping my cousin find a tacoma, and we both came across this on on CL. Check out the link.

    http://cincinnati.craigslist.org/ctd/1740504121.html

I'm confused because on Wikipedia it says that the TRD option started in 98 and this one is a 96... It's a 2.7l Reg Cab 5 Speed. Power windows, & locks.

Just wondering. It looks SUPER clean for how many miles are on it.

    Thanks for the help guys!

That's correct ... The TRD Off Road Package wasn't offered until the 1998 model year. Looks like someone simply pasted TRD stickers onto this older Taco.

Second the above. Not a TRD, although the PO might have locked up the rear. Clean truck though...

I gotcha, thanks for the help guys! Well, it must be something a little better than the base model since it has power windows and locks right? SR5 maybe?

Maybe, maybe not ... A 'Power Package' bundle including power windows and locks was available on all models in 1996.

Check the photos of the truck it has manual windows .. It looks like a Tacoma SX to me, 4 cylinder, 5 speed , rear slider, chrome bumpers and grill as well as chrome wheel opening mouldings and the alloys with factory 31's.... I had a green 96 just like it that had 329,000 on it when Toyota bought it back....

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
The other red flag is that it is a regular cab. TRD is not and never was offered on reg cabs.

The 1996 regular cab model had the option of a rear locking differential I believe. Not many had it, and the true "TRD" package still did not exist, but I believe it was an option.

Yea I've heard the same that the 96's had an option to have a rear locker but it only came with the 3.4l not the 2.7l. If I remember correctly.

It books at about $4100 for excellent. Personally, the ad is fraudulent and I would try to get the price down to say the $3750-4000 range.

Not true ... The e-locker option was always available on 3RZ **manual** models. It was 3RZ **automatics** that couldn't have the e-locker (either with the TRD package or as a standalone option).

In fact, the e-locker was originally introduced on manual Regular Cab 4X4's (including 4-cylinder) in the 1996 model year.

First TRD package on the PreRunner Tacomas were available to the dealers in the fall of 1998 but as a '99 model.

I think it is a bit high but being at a lot I would low ball the crap out of them. I would offer 3000 out the door and see what happens!
