i have probably installed 75 engines in my life. please take great care where u buy it or have it rebuilt, there alot of bad machine shops out there sure all give you a warranty but its frustrating to remove an engine two or three times till they get it right, i personaly would contact jasper engines, they have a 5 year 100000 mile nationwide parts and labor warranty standard, you can also purchase the install kit for your specific vehicle.comes with everything but coolant and oil, also if there is an inherant problem with certain engines they engineer it out. i have ony had a problem wih one of there engines and they flew a rep out and he fixed it, ps i am an ase certified master auto and diesel tech and this is just my 2 cents,

That or try and shoehorn a 3.9L 4cyl Cummins, haha.

But as someone mentioned earlier, be careful where you get your engine from. At work, I've had to do a motor swap twice because the junkyard guy said the motor only has about 40k miles on it, he didnt mention that whoever owned it before probably only changed the oil once in that time and the motor smoked like a chimney.

Keep in mind that if you get a new engine and don't do oil changes, it'll void the warranty. I'd rebuild if it were me. Like others have said, you could rebuild it with upgraded/stronger components and also supercharge it for the price of a new one.

hmmm. that is interesting. I look into the Jasper company because I'd like an engine with a good warranty.

Did the truck get ran out of oil then? Sure, 16 months is way past due for an oil change of course, but the engine should still run nonetheless even with the dirty oil assuming the oil is not dangerously low to cause it to seize. But I guess that I can see if a ton a miles were put on it between that time period it just wore out the oil so much that caused excessive wear and ruined the engine.

The thought of a diesel Tacoma is mind boggling! If you are thinking an engine swap because you want to keep this truck for a long time, this might be your ticket. It is a bit pricey but they do everything. I think they might have a cheaper option where they order the engine/transmission (front clip) for you and you do it. Not sure, but something to look into.

Dude I ran a taco engine (2.4L) without oil for 150 simulated miles and it still worked fine. Shop class experiment.

A brand new engine can be trusted so long as you treat it right.

    (just like a woman, btw)

As mentioned I would try Jasper engines or go to your local auto parts store and they also sell remanufactured engines.

Thanx for the advice. THe truck shuddered before it broke down. Like the front area made the whole truck shudder right before it couldnt drive anymore. If it can drive, 10 mphs tops and that is with the shuddering.

auto parts store engines suck!i actualy put 5 in the same vehicle in the course of 2 years.finaly they stoped warrantying them for the customer. so he paid me to take the last one apart. ummmm it had 3 sizes of crank bearings , 2 different cylinder heads ie different chamber size. and 7 flat top pistons and one dish piston. garbage. this is not the first time ive run into this.

How many miles did you drive in the 16 months?

Are you sure that the engine is damaged? Check the oil? Have you had a mechanic take a look at the engine? Bad to not change the oil for 16 months but shouldn't be terminal unless all the oil is gone.

Positive, I've taken it to two places. The engine needs to be replaced. The truck shudders like crazy and doesnt go over 10 mph.
